    Abstract: The present invention provides a swivel sub for connection in a work string between a workstring and a downhole apparatus. The swivel sub also includes a sliding sleeve, having one or more teeth arranged mutually engage with the first teeth is axially moveable between disengaged and engaged positions, in one embodiment by a pressure differential being created in the sub. Further, the present invention provides methods for of running the tool, with particular application to setting and hanging of liners and screens.

    Abstract: A hydraulic control sub assembly for actuating hydraulically operated downhole remedial tools, such as section mills or underreamers, is disclosed. The control sub features a drop ball mechanism to terminate the flow of drilling fluid to the hydraulic tool thereby inactivating the tool. The control sub also has a hydraulic rupture disc that permits drilling fluid circulation when tripping the drill pipe. The control sub further contains upwardly directed jet nozzles to enhance fluid flow in the well bore to help clear away debris. A float valve is also incorporated in the control sub to ensure there is no fluid under high pressure trapped in the hydraulic tool that may jam the tool.

    Abstract: A mechanical latching device for repeatable latching and unlatching of downhole well tools is adapted for use in a mandrel interconnected with a tubing string of a well, the mandrel forming a downwardly directed internal shoulder. The latch mechanism incorporates a fishing neck adapted for interconnection with the downhole tool. The fishing neck is disposed in upstanding generally centralized relation within the mandrel. A collet member which may be a component part of a well service tool or which may be a component part of the latch mechanism defines pulling shoulders at the free extremity of collet fingers defined thereby. A latch retainer is disposed in movable relation about the fishing neck and is movable between latched and unlatched positions relative to the fishing neck. In the latched position the latch retainer provides external support for the collet fingers to maintain the collet fingers in latching interengagement with a pulling flank.

The dogs include a ball which engages a backup shoulder in the body to hold the dogs inwardly when the sleeve covers the openings. The sleeve includes a shoulder engaging the balls for limiting the extent of the inward movement of the dogs and the body includes a recess to receive the dogs when the sleeve is moved to an opening position. Mechanical or hydrostatic shear releases are provided.

    Abstract: Well tools comprising a go-devil actuated well safety valve, a locking assembly for releasably locking the safety valve at a desired depth in a well, running and pulling tools for installing and removing the safety valve, a go-devil ball for closing the safety valve, and apparatus for dropping the go-devil ball into a well under pressure and for retrieving the ball. The go-devil safety valve is mounted above the locking assembly and includes a trigger type latch which is released from above by the impact of the go-devil ball. The valve may be reset for reopening the valve without removal of the valve from the well bore by means of a special reset and pulling tool disclosed herein. The go-devil valve is installed in a well, preferably above a storm choke, to shut the well in under emergency conditions which releases the go-devil ball at the surface in response to hazardous conditions such as fire. The go-devil ball drops to the go-devil valve which closes in response to the impact of the ball.
