Abstract: The invention is a data processing method and system for suggesting non-obvious potential Hydrocarbon Plays from unstructured text. The data processing system detects clues for Hydrocarbon Play Elements in sentences, matches combinatorial patterns (DNA inspired) across sentences and documents to output potential Hydrocarbon Plays. The system also computes a rank for the detected Hydrocarbon Play's non-obvious nature. In particular, the data processing system operates on any digital unstructured text derived from academic literature, company reports, web pages and other sources. Detected Hydrocarbon Plays can be used to stimulate ideation and learning events for geoscientists in the oil and gas exploration industry.

  • Patent number: 10890067
Abstract: A method for the determination of the water cut and volumetric flow rate of a fluid flowing through a density inflow control valve. A density inflow control valve may include a floating device that moves between a relaxed choke position and a restricted choke position depending on the density of the fluid flowing through the valve. Pressure gauges upstream and downstream of the inflow control device may be used to measure the pressure drop across the inflow control valve over time. The water cut of the downhole fluid flowing through the valve may be determined from the pressure drop over time and the pressure drop associated with the relaxed choke position and the restricted choke position. The volumetric flow rate may be determined from the average water cut and the density of the downhole fluid, as determined from the single phase densities.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to reducing noise in geophysical marine survey data through use of a dip map data structure. Such techniques may include adapting a model of multiple noise to seismic data. A multiple dip map may be generated by convolving the adapted model of multiple noise with a set of directional filters. A modified record of the seismic data may be generated through adaptive subtraction that is sufficient to remove most multiple events but may also damage at least some primary events. A primary dip map may then be determined from the modified record by interpolation dependent on the multiple dip map. A noise template may then be adaptively subtracted from the seismic data. Prior to the adaptive subtraction, the noise template is adapted to the seismic data by a degree of adaptation that is determined dependent upon relative amplitudes of the primary and multiple dip maps.

  • Patent number: 10724356
Abstract: A downhole separator performs the function of removing gas from liquids before the liquids enter the well pump. The formation fluid enters into a first, lower, chamber, of the separator and exits through channels to helical passageways on the exterior of the separator body. A shroud surrounds the separator body to serve as an outer wall of the helical passageways. Spiraling movement of the fluid forces the heavier liquids outward and causes separation of the lighter gas. The liquids and gas are ejected from the top of the separator body. The separated liquids drain downward by gravity pull to a liquid reservoir. Liquids in the reservoir are driven upward and flow through channels on the exterior of the separator body into a second, upper chamber, in the separator body which is coupled by tubing to the inlet of the pump.

Abstract: A system and method for planning a well path is described. An exemplary method comprises defining a proxy constraint volume as a three-dimensional (3D) cellular volume where each cell has at least one value derived from data from a 3D earth model. An initial well path is defined within user defined drilling parameter constraints. The exemplary method comprises defining acceptable constraint parameters to be applied to values derived from an intersection of the initial well path and the proxy constraint volume. If the intersection of the initial well path and the proxy constraint volume is not within the acceptable constraint parameters, the initial well path may be iteratively adjusted to create successive well paths until at least one of the successive well paths is within the acceptable constraint parameters for the values derived from the intersection of the well path and proxy constraint volume.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for controlling a power source (9) at a rock drilling apparatus, said power source (9) being arranged to drive at least a first load (8, 10, 15) at the rock drilling apparatus, wherein said first load (8, 10, 15), in operation, provides power to a first consumer (11, 21), and where the power that can be delivered by- said first load (8, 10, 15) depends on the rotation speed of the power source. The method includes, by means of a representation of said first consumer (11, 21), determining a power demand of said first consumer (11, 21), and based on said determined power demand, determine a rotation speed demand of said first load (8, 10, 15). The rotation speed of said power source is then controlled based at least on said determined rotation speed demand of said first load (8, 10, 15 ). The invention also relates to a system and a rock drilling apparatus.

Abstract: The present invention provides for an apparatus for use with a traveling valve assembly of a downhole pump for releasing gas and thereby breaking gas locks. The apparatus comprises a piston slidably disposed within a cylindrical housing, the piston being driven by an attached plunger element. On the down stroke of the pump, the piston protrudes through end of the cylindrical housing engaging and opening the adjacent valve. On the up stroke of the pump, the piston retracts into the cylindrical housing, disengaging from the valve allowing it to close. Fluid flows along the outer surface of the apparatus by means of fluid ports connected by defined fluid passages.

  • Patent number: 9115559
Abstract: An elongated inflatable collar is securely attached to the exterior surface of a coiled tubing string before the tubing is lowered into the well for subsequent positioning at a predetermined subterranean location in the well casing. Upon inflation, the inflatable collar seals the annulus between the coiled tubing string and the well casing. A liquid injected from the surface creates sufficient hydraulic pressure on the upper surface of the inflated collar to advance the collar and the attached coiled tubing string and overcome frictional drag forces with the surrounding wall that caused the coiled tubing string to lock-up. The inflatable collar of the present invention can also be used to free a section of coiled tubing that is jammed in the formation due to buckling, by injecting a pressurized liquid into the wellbore downstream of the inflated collar to thereby apply a force to the downhole surface of the collar.
