Abstract: A centralizer device that is set by expansion of an inner expandable tubular member. The centralizer is made up of either one or a plurality of centralizer bands which radially surround an inner, radially expandable tubular member. Each of the centralizer bands includes one or more expansion sections which buckles under tension to form a loop. Generally semicircular, opposing tension straps are affixed to opposite end portions of the expansion section. The tension straps underlie the expansion section and radially surround the inner tubular member in a close-fitting, snug relation. A closure mechanism is used to secure each centralizer band to the inner tubular member.

A retaining band is circumferentially disposed about the fingers of the collet for maintaining engagement of the collet and the mandrel prior to application of a predetermined axially directed force on the releasing mechanism. Upon application of such a force the collet fingers expand, breaking the shear band, the mandrel is released and the downhole tool is disengaged.

Abstract: A running tool for well drilling operations is carried by a running string into and out of a wellbore. A collet is carried by the running tool, the collet having fingers with a radially expanded position arranged to latch against a wellbore shoulder in the wellbore. The fingers are resiliently and radially contractible. A shear element is carried by the collet, the shear element preventing the fingers from radially contracting to unlatch the running tool while the shear element is intact. If a selected axial force is applied against the shear element, it shears, freeing the collet fingers to retract. The collet may be part of a tool to set and release a liner hanger from engagement with a string of casing.

Abstract: A downhole apparatus having a radially expanding portion and a support structure are described. The support structure comprises an attachment means for coupling to the apparatus and a support portion configured to be deployed from a first unexpanded condition to a second expanded condition by expansion of the apparatus. In one aspect of the invention, the downhole apparatus is expanded by exposing the swellable material to at least one predetermined fluid, and the support structure abuts the swellable material in its expanded form. A method of use and its application to a well packer, a hanging member, an anchor and a centralising apparatus are described.

Abstract: A running tool has a stem for connecting to a string of conduit, a body, and a plurality of functional positions selected in response to rotation of the stem relative to the body. A feedback mechanism assembly is connected to the running tool and is operational with rotation of the stem relative to the body. The feedback mechanism assembly increases the torque required to rotate the stem relative to the body when the running tool has reached one of the plurality of its functional positions. The increased torque thereby provides a positive indication that the running tool has reached and is in the desired and proper functional position.

Abstract: A material that dissolves or disintegrates is secured to an inside surface of tubular goods before swaging or expansion takes place. The material remains in position as the swaging occurs and post expansion is removed leaving a recess of a desired shape to function for a variety of purposes depending on its shape and location. At the end of a tubular it can serve as a bell into which the next string is expanded for a monobore completion. In other locations in a tubular it can function as a landing collar for a variety of tools. It can also function as a seal bore as the added material is removed preferably with water. The preferred material is an alloy of aluminum, tin and zinc.

Abstract: An assembly supports a control line of a downhole tool, such as a downhole deployment valve. The tool deploys on casing and has a control line extending from the wellhead to the tool. To support the line separately from any casing hanger, a split bowl disposes around the casing and lands on a shoulder in the head. A port in the bowl has one opening that aligns with a side port in the head. Another opening of the bowl's port connects to the control line that extends to the downhole tool. A section of the control line from the split bowl can be flexible to help prevent kinking or breaking of the line during installation procedures. A hanger disposes on another shoulder in the head uphole from the bowl. The hanger supports the casing in the head separate from the bowl's support of the control line.
