With Means Permitting Repeated Discharge Patents (Class 169/76)
  • Patent number: 11389677
Abstract: A fire-fighting system for an aircraft, the fire-fighting system having a reservoir having an exterior envelope which delimits an interior volume of the reservoir and an interior wall which extends inside the exterior envelope and separates the interior volume into a first chamber and a second chamber which are separate from one another and are each filled with an extinguishing fluid. A network of pipes, and a valve system are provided which are arranged so as to allow, in succession, the extinguishing fluid to flow from the first chamber to the network of pipes, and then the extinguishing fluid to flow from the second chamber to the network of pipes. Such a fire-fighting system allows simpler installation in the aircraft, the fitting of a single network of pipes and hence a saving in terms of weight and volume.

  • Patent number: 5535829
Abstract: In order to carry out a fire extinguishing operation by ejecting a fire extinguishing gas having cooling and oxygen deficiency functions and a high fire extinguishing capacity from a plurality of cylinders in succession, a repeating injector is provided with an ejection mechanism which has a magazine containing a plurality of cylinders filled with such a fire extinguishing gas and detachably fixed to a receiver barrel constituting an injector body, and which is adapted to break a seal member on a head portion of each of the cylinders by a triggering operation and eject the fire extinguishing gas, and a cylinder renewing mechanism for discharging a cylinder, which has been subjected to the ejection of the fire extinguishing gas and become empty, by knob-pulling operation, and renewing the cylinder successively.

  • Patent number: 5377872
Abstract: A valve, particularly useful in a fire extinguisher, includes a valve housing having a through bore. A valve stem is disposed within the bore and is axially moveable between a first position, a second position, and a third position. The valve stem includes a seal adjacent to the second axial end for sealing with the first section of the bore. A cap is disposed within the second section of the bore and is axially moveable between a first position and a second position. The cap includes a seal for sealing with the bore when the cap is in the first position. The cap seal is impermeable to solids and permeable to gas when the cap is in the first position.

  • Patent number: 5152345
Abstract: A fire extinguishing tool is formed as a paddle plate, including top and bottom planar surfaces coextensive relative to one another, with a handle mounted medially and longitudinally aligned relative to the plate to provide a grasping surface for an individual to direct the plate onto flames by smothering such flames preventing oxygen access to the flame area. A modification of the invention includes a central conduit directed through the plate, with a bottom surface of the plate including a matrix of valves directed therethrough, with the handle defining a pneumatic reservoir for directing an inert gas through the bottom surface upon impacting of flames in a fire extinguishing situation.

  • Patent number: 4822003
Abstract: A valve, particularly useful in a fire extinguisher, which utilizes a stem movable in a passageway having a head connected to the stem. The head includes a relatively hard member possessing a hard outer surface which fits snugly within the passageway. The head further includes a deformable portion adjacent the relatively hard surface of the relatively hard member. The relatively hard surface of the relatively hard portion contacts and scrapes the wall portion prior to sealing which is effected between the deformable portion and the wall of the passageway.

  • Patent number: 4567948
Abstract: A portable fire extinguisher designed to increase the discharge velocity and maximum throw distance of the extinguishant. A poppet type valve manually operable to open and close the extinguisher. Tappets placed outside the path of the discharging extinguishant and a smoothly finished discharge passage to provide an obstruction free discharge path. The obstruction free discharge path reduces turbulence and the resultant pressure drop in the extinguishant and increases both the discharge rate and throw distance.

  • Patent number: 4505335
Abstract: An aerosol fire extinguishant container has an insert positioned and secured within a recess in the closure cap of the container. An opening in the insert permits the stem of a depressable ejector nozzle to engage a valve structure in the cap. A trigger is pivotably mounted within a handle mounted on the cap and has a cam for acting on the ejector nozzle to release extinguishant through the nozzle when the trigger is depressed. The insert has strengthening bars which aid in securing the handle to the cap. The insert prevents the stem of the nozzle from being separated from the valve structure when the container is dropped and the handle and trigger are broken.
