  • Patent number: 5009369
Abstract: A spray shield unit adapted to be mounted on the head of a sprayer where the head has a spinner thereon rotatable about an axis for spraying liquid generally radially outwardly with respect to said axis. The spray shield unit comprises a hub having an opening therein for receiving the head of the sprayer, and a generally planer circular shield member mounted on the hub generally coaxial with the hub and projecting radially outwardly from the hub for shieldling spray emitted by the spinner from the wind. The shield member is rotatable on the hub generally on the central axis of the hub opening whereby when the spray shield unit is mounted on the head of the sprayer and when the sprayer is held with the spinner axis generally horizontal, the shield member may be rolled on the ground to maintain the head of the sprayer in the hub opening a fixed vertical distance from the ground to provide a uniform distribution of spray onto the ground.

  • Patent number: 4962631
Abstract: The present invention provides an edger wherein a cutter device is arranged on one side of an edger frame, the position of a front wheel is adjustable, the position of one of the rear wheels situated on the other side of the edger frame is also adjustable, and a mechanism for changing the position of the front wheel as well as changing the position of the rear wheel is performed by a single control lever at the operator's station. With this arrangement, the adjustment of the depth of the cutter and the adjustment for maintaining the edger in a horizontal condition when the edger is driven on a curbstone can be easily effected by the operator.

  • Patent number: 4531350
Abstract: The wheeled assembly supports and converts a hand-held power grass trimmer device into a wheeled power mower. The assembly includes a wheeled frame and a two-part detachable joint. The frame is mounted on ground-engaging, support wheels. The two-part joint includes (1) a bracelet which is fixably and releasably mounted on the trimmer's shaft without impairing the operator's ability to hand manipulate the trimmer when it is fully detached from the frame, and (2) a casing secured to the frame which detachably receives and holds the bracelet together with its shaft in a predetermined upstanding and inclined position against downward and rotational movements, but leaves the casing free to release the lock between the bracelet and the casing when a pull is exerted on the trimmer handle in an upward direction along the longitudinal axis of the trimmer shaft.

  • Patent number: 4463544
Abstract: An edger is provided with a rotatable cutting blade for trimming grass, weeds, and the like, wherein the angular orientation of the cutting blade is quickly and easily adjusted to a selected one of several cutting positions. The cutting blade is driven by a motor mounted within a motor housing which is in turn supported for rotation about a longitudinal axis between a front wheel assembly and a rear wheel assembly. A locking mechanism carried by the motor housing has a pair of spring-biased lugs normally received into locking recesses in the front and rear wheel assemblies to lock the motor housing at a selected rotational position and thereby lock the cutting blade at a selected angular orientation. The locking mechanism is manually retractable to withdraw the lugs simultaneously from their respective locking recesses to permit rotation of the motor housing simultaneously with respect to the front and rear wheel assemblies to alter the angular orientation of the cutting blade.

  • Patent number: 4182100
Abstract: A wheeled carrier for a lawn mower and edger which can be of the nylon line type. The mowing and edging tool is yieldably supported on a frame of the carrier to permit multi-directional operator controlled movement of the tool with respect to the carrier by manipulation of handle bars connected to a support for the cutter. The mounting permits steering a front wheel of the carrier by pressure applied to the handle bars. Rear wheels of the carrier are mounted to be fixed in different positions with respect to the front wheel, and parallel to each other to enable moving the carrier in different straight-line directions with respect to its longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 3977475
Abstract: This invention is for a lawn edger. The edger has a strong unitary base mounted on a middle row of wheels and may be tilted backwards onto a rear roller. A motor is mounted on top of the base and a handle connects to the rear of the base. A cutter extends forward of the base and is held into position by a pair of forwardly extending rods. The cutter, which turns in a direction to throw any debris forward of the edger, is driven by a belt from the motor. A spring operating against one of the rods keeps a constant tension on the drive belt. A shield surrounds the cutter and has a guide with a lower rear position extending below the cutting blade. The edger may be run on a flat solid surface without the blade striking the surface. The edger is balanced with the middle row of wheels being the approximate center of gravity. The edger can tilt forward to the cutting position or rearward against the rear roller.

  • Patent number: 3946815
Abstract: The present application discloses an invention whereby the common gardening tasks of sod cutting and lawn edging may be performed by a single tool. By providing a structural member of thin cross section and generally rectangular shape with a reinforcing member along its top edge, a suitable handle, and a pair of removable wheels, one on each side of said member, with one of said wheels being a larger lawn edging wheel and the other being a smaller sod cutting wheel, a dual-purpose lawn and garden tool is provided. With the small sod cutting wheel mounted in the appropriate position, the sharpened leading edge of the structural member will easily cut sod, and with the smaller wheel removed and the larger wheel mounted, the lawn edging operation can be performed. Removable spacer members of varying widths, and a deflector member, combine to determine the width of cut and direct the pieces of sod away from the trench produced.

  • Patent number: 3943998
Abstract: A manually operable lawn-edge trimming implement consists of a blade-carrier, a knifing blade and a broom-stick handle by which the implement may be presented to the lawn edge and traversed therealong with the blade obliquely penetrated into the earth along the line of edge trimming. The blade-carrier acts as a clamp for removably holding the replaceable knifing blade, and the blade-carrier is supported by an axle on two wheels which are well spaced apart so as to prevent grass crushing in the lawn-edge vicinity.
