  • Patent number: 9963957
Abstract: A bypass plunger combines a unitary or one-piece hollow body-and-valve cage, retains a dart valve within the valve cage portion of the hollow body using a threaded retaining nut secured by crimple detents. A series of helical grooves surround the central portion of the outer surface of the hollow body of the plunger to control spin during descent. A canted-coil-spring disposed within the retaining nut functions as a clutch. The valve cage includes ports that may be configured to control flow through the plunger during ascent. Other embodiments include clutch assemblies using canted-coil springs with split bobbins, and valve stems surfaced to achieve specific functions. Combinations of these features provide enhanced performance, durability and reliability at reduced manufacturing cost, due primarily to the simplicity of its design.

  • Patent number: 9334706
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a Top Drive Pipe Spinner (TDPS). The TDPS is a tool that allows for the setting of casing without a specialized crew or any additional power source. By employing the weight of the existing top drive to set slips on the casing collar, the TDPS allows one casing to be threaded onto the next in a timely and efficient manner. The casing tongs of the TDPS use passive release weight to release the casing collar from the casing to allow for the successive insertion of another casing section. The top drive spins the TDPS and compresses the unit onto the casing, then lifts the unit and releases the casing when desired.

Abstract: Supporting clamps for a tool such as, for example, a pile driver machine are used to tilt a machine support relative to a horizontal plane. The clamps include a pair of jaw elements one of which is received on a pivot and the other of which has a pair of parallel spaced pistons. The clamp jaw elements gird a fixed reference device to support the tool securely for subsequent operations. Different pressures applied to the two pistons causes the clamp to tilt about the fixed reference device, and thereby to tilt the tool to which it is attached. The difference in pressure is controlled to rotate the tool as desired. In a second embodiment of the invention, the desired angle is established by controlling an angle of a backup surface, and applying equal pressure to the two pistons. The fixed reference device is driven into the angled backup surface to establish the desired tilt angle. In a further embodiment, one piston is disposed at each side of the gap. The two pistons are spaced apart along the gap.

Abstract: A bolt welding gun is provided with supporting legs extending outwardly from the gun housing which can be displaced to accommodate different bolt-attaching situations. The supporting legs can be mounted in a ring-shaped housing part which is rotatable about the driving axis of the gun. Alternatively, the ring-shaped housing part can be formed of individual segments with at least one segment arranged to be pivoted about an axis parallel to the driving axis. In another embodiment, the part of the housing to which the supporting legs are secured, can be provided with a plurality of receptacles greater in number than the supporting legs used so that the legs can be moved between the receptacles in accordance with the support arrangement desired.
