  • Patent number: 7387173
Abstract: A pile driver including an apparatus for allowing relative movement between a hammer and a boom of an excavator. The apparatus includes a mounting plate mounted to the boom that interfits with and is slidable with respect to a frame rail mounted to the hammer. In operation, the hammer is placed on top of a pile and, as the pile is driven downwardly, the hammer follows the pile. Owing to the relative movement between the boom of the excavator and the hammer, the hammer follows the pile without requiring continuous downward readjustment of the boom. In one embodiment, the mounting plate assembly does not extend substantially above the hammer frame. In another embodiment, the hammer can rotate with respect to the boom. In one embodiment, the hammer includes a ram, a cylinder for lifting the ram, and rotation-resistant cable connecting the ram and the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6889777
Abstract: A post driving implement for use with a vehicle, such as a tractor or a skid loader, is disclosed. The post driving implement is comprised of a hammer, a hammer channel, and a hammer cylinder. The hammer travels longitudinally within the hammer channel and is lifted by the hammer cylinder mounted to a closed end of the hammer channel. The hammer cylinder and its associated plumbing is of sufficient size to function as a hydraulic reservoir for the post driving implement, thus eliminating the need for a third hydraulic line to the reservoir on the vehicle and to avoiding need for alteration of the vehicle's reservoir. The post driving implement of the present invention may also include a back plate for mounting the implement to a vehicle. Additionally, the post driving implement may include adjustment mechanisms to vary the positional and angular relationship between the vehicle and the implement.

The drilling equipment includes a traveling block suspended for generally vertical travel within a derrick during drilling of a well, a direct drive drilling unit suspendable from the traveling block, means for guiding the drilling unit during drilling and apparatus connected to the derrick for moving the drilling unit laterally relative to the axis of the well to an offset position. The drilling unit includes a drill motor and a drive sleeve for threadably connecting the drill motor to a drill string in the well. The guide means includes a first pair of rails connected to the derrick and extending parallel to the axis of the well. The apparatus includes a second pair of rails and means for supporting the drilling unit. The second pair of rails is positionable below and in alignment with the first pair of rails when the support means is in the offset position.

  • Patent number: 4890680
Abstract: A machine for working rock, especially a block drilling machine, comprising at least one working tool, especially drilling tool. The drilling unit comprising the drilling tool is adapted to be connected to a supporting means in such a way that it has three degrees of freedom of rotation relative to the supporting means, which means it is movable, i.e. rotatable, relative to the supporting means about three axes which are respectively normal to each other. Furthermore the supporting means itself has at least two degrees of freedom of rotation relative to the ground. In particular, the supporting means can be pivoted about an axis which is approximately normal to the ground and an axis which is approximately parallel thereto, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4838615
Abstract: Apparatus for excavating a tunnel of generally quadrilateral cross-section, the apparatus comprising a cutting head having the head being mounted for rotation about a first axis and a second axis to change the angle of inclination of the cutter. The cutter may be retracted on its support and may be moved transversely of the excavation on a slide, horizontally. It may be moved vertically by mounting the head on an arm pivotally mounted or in another embodiment by mounting the head on a vertically movable carrier carried on a slide. This can be used for excavating by making a set of cuts at various angles; first and second slots are generally parallel at the face but the first slots are inclined to the second, and to the face, so that they intersect. A third set of slots may intersect the first and second sets (for example, vertically) to separate the material from the face in convenient-sized blocks.
