Abstract: A forming electrode unit for forming the conductors of the electric wire into the terminal includes a female pressing electrode having an electric wire housing groove, and a male pressing electrode having an electric wire pressing portion which is fitted in the groove in such a manner that a clearance is defined between the pressing portion and the female pressing electrode. To form the conductors together into the terminal, the conductors are set in the groove, and thereafter pressed by the pressing portion as an electrical current is caused to flow through the electrodes and the conductors to heat the conductors. The electric wire is thus integrally provided with the solidly formed terminal.

  • Patent number: 5051539
Abstract: A welding cable has connectors at each end, and a plurality of electrical conductors extending through the cable from one connector to the other. An insulating element includes a tubular outer wall, and a plurality of wall portions extending radially in respective directions from the central portion to the outer wall, each conductor being disposed in a passageway defined by a respective pair of adjacent radial wall portions and a portion of the outer wall. The connectors at the ends of the cable facilitate a flow of cooling water through the passageways in the insulating element. The insulating element extends through a pair of axially spaced, tubular cover portions, each of which has one end clamped to a respective connector.

  • Patent number: 5004865
Abstract: A device for splicing together two lengths of fluid-cooled, electric cable of the type comprising an electrical conductor surrounding by a flexible conduit through which a cooling fluid, e.g., water, can flow for the purpose of conducting thermal energy away from the cable while the cable conducts high current. The splicing device comprises an electrically-conductive tubular member having a pair of spaced holes in the tube wall. The tubular member is adapted to be crimped at both ends upon the respective ends of the conductor portion of two lengths of such cable, and the outside diameter of such member is substantially equal to the inside diameter of the flexible conduit portion of the cable so that the respective ends of the conduit portion of such two lengths of cable can snugly slide over the tubular member from opposite ends. The holes are located in the tubular member to allow fluid to flow substantially uninterrupted from one cable length, through the tubular member, to the other cable length.

  • Patent number: 4963694
Abstract: A connector assembly for transferring high-frequency current into or from a Litz-wire electrical cable having multiple conductor strands includes a transition connector component, a terminal connector component, and a coupling collar. The transition component has an annular groove which receives the splayed ends of the multiple conductor strands and makes electrical connection therewith by soldering of the conductor strand ends to the transition component at the groove. The transition component also has a central opening through it for providing flow communication with the internal coolant flow channel of the electrical cable. The terminal connector component has an orifice through it for establishing flow communication between the transition component opening and an external source of coolant. The terminal component also has a tab projecting from it for making an external electrical connection. The transition and terminal components are electrically connected together by fasteners.

  • Patent number: 4868348
Abstract: A welding cable having an elongate insulating separator formed by six walls which project radially outwardly in circumferentially spaced relation to define six spaces which extend around the separator and open radially outwardly. A plurality of positive and negative conductors are alternately arranged within the circumferentially adjacent spaces. The separator, at least in the vicinity of an end thereof, is axially diametrically split into two axially extending separator parts, each including a pair of outer spaces disposed on opposite sides of an intermediate space. A positive and a negative conductor respectively extend along the intermediate space of the first and second separator parts. A pair of negative conductors, which normally extend along the outer spaces of the first separator part, are extracted radially outwardly and are inserted into the outer spaces of the second separator part.

Abstract: A welding cable comprises an insulating separator, and twisted positive and negative conductors alternately arranged between radial dividing walls defined by the insulating separator. Either the twisted positive or negative conductors are covered by insulating covers near the end of the separator and are extracted from the separator forming a first group of conductors which is pressedly fitted to one terminal contact end. The remaining group of conductors, along with the separator, are pressedly fixed to the other terminal contact end.

  • Patent number: 4853516
Abstract: An electrical cable includes an elongated conduit with a plurality of electrical conductors therein. Each of the conductors is provided with a perforated polyurethane sheath thus providing electrical insulation among the electrical conductors. The conduit is also formed of polyurethane and is a double walled conduit. The exterior surface of the conduit is provided with longitudinal grooves or channels and the interior wall of the conduit is provided with longitudinal grooves or channels. These channels facilitate flexing of the cable. Coolant may be provided interiorly of the group of conductors and between the conductors and the inner wall of the conduit. The perforations in the polyurethane sheaths facilitate cooling. A metal collar is crimped at the end of the cable to prevent leakage of the coolant fluid and for attaching the conduit to a terminal connector. The cable is particularly useful in conjunction with a welding device.
