  • Patent number: 6684974
Abstract: A four-wheel steering system includes a frame that carries an axle that rotationally mounts a pair of front wheels via a pair of front pivotal wheel support assemblies. For steering, the front pivotal wheel assemblies are pivotal with respect to the axle. The frame also carries a pair of rear wheels that are rotationally mounted to the frame via a pair of rear pivotal wheel support assemblies. For steering, the rear pivotal wheel assemblies are pivotal with respect to the frame about vertical axes. The front pivotal wheel support assemblies are connected together by a front axle tie rod. Steering by an operator causes expansion or contraction of a hydraulic cylinder arranged between one front pivotal wheel support assembly and the axle, causing selective pivoting of both front pivotal wheel support assemblies.

  • Patent number: 6052633
Abstract: A power steering apparatus for an electric vehicle has a steering mechanism for steering a pair of steered wheels upon receiving assist power from a steering assist-power according to a steer force required for steering the steered wheels. A fluid pressure pump driven by an electric motor supplies pressurized fluid to the steering assist-power mechanism. An electric motor controller stops the electric motor when the electric-source voltage detected by an electric source voltage detector is greater than or equal to a voltage set value and when the steer angle detected by a steer angle detector is smaller than a steer angle set value, and prohibits stopping the electric motor when the electric-source voltage is smaller than the voltage set value. Therefore, it becomes possible to ensure the steering responsiveness under an electric voltage lowered condition while avoiding the disturbance to the electric source.

  • Patent number: 6021687
Abstract: A gearbox is provided with a selector shaft, which is capable of reciprocating movement for selecting the selector slot and rotating movement for changing gears. A gear lever is connected to a first constructional member, provided with a first and a second coupling point, which are positioned on one side of a first axis and on either side of a second axis, and a third coupling point, positioned on the second axis. The selector shaft is provided with a second constructional member, with two coupling points positioned one either side of an axis of rotation, and a further coupling point. The coupling points on the first constructional member and the coupling points on the second constructional member are interconnected and the third coupling point is connected to the further coupling point. • Patent number: 5899292
Abstract: Front and rear wheeled units (13, 14) of vehicle are connected together for articulated steering. Wheels on at least one unit are mounted for swivelling relative to the respective unit to provide kingpin steering in combination with articulation steering. A first embodiment has front and rear kingpin steering and articulation steering performed manually and independently of each other. • Patent number: 5758740
Abstract: An automatic rear wheel self-centering device for four-wheel steering vehicles automatically performs the rear wheel self-centering operation when the steering mode of the vehicle returns from another steering mode to the standard steering mode. The device has a branch conduit branched from a conduit leading from the steering unit to the steering mode selection valve. A conduit control valve is mounted to the branch conduit and is changeable between a neutral position blocking the branch conduit, a first position connecting the branch conduit to one side chamber of the rear wheel steering cylinder and a second position connecting the branch conduit to the other side chamber of the cylinder. The spool of the conduit control valve moves synchronous with a linear movement of the piston of the rear wheel steering cylinder, thereby changing the position of the conduit control valve between the above three positions.

  • Patent number: 5609221
Abstract: Known all wheel steer arrangements use standard spool-type valves which are inherently subject to leakage that results in the front and rear wheels getting out of synchronization due to the leakage. In the subject invention, a hydraulic system has front and rear pairs of steerable wheels respectively interconnected by front and rear fluid actuated mechanisms. A steering valve delivers pressurized fluid to the front fluid actuated mechanism for steering of only the front pair of wheels and to both the front and rear fluid actuated mechanisms to steer the front and rear pairs of wheels simultaneously but in opposite directions. Furthermore, a rear steer valve mechanism is provided to independently direct pressurized fluid to the rear fluid actuated mechanism to steer the rear pair of wheels independent of the front pair of wheels.
