Housing Or Enclosure (e.g., Sound Confining And Absorbing) Patents (Class 181/198)
  • Patent number: 4122910
Abstract: A triaxial or four-dimensional radiant energy transducer system is embodied in an omniphonic microphone and loudspeaker system as it relates to the sound spectrum. This is a system which is capable of detecting the location and direction of a source of sound and, conversely, is capable of re-presenting the location and direction of that source of sound.

  • Patent number: 4120382
Abstract: A vibration damper for damping sound propagating in solids includes vibran damping horn members connected through a damping material to a support point on the surface of the solid in such a manner that a tapering portion of the horn member contacts the solid through the damping material. The taper in a horn member, for example of circular cross section, is considered to be the curvature of the horn member away from a generatrix of the horn member. The damping factor of the connecting damping material is equal or substantially equal to the terminal impedance of the horn member.

  • Patent number: 4062422
Abstract: Radiated noises from sonar dome structures are reduced by the use of an erior damping material applied over the dome skin. The damping material is bonded to the outside of a steel sonar dome that is subjected to a seawater environment. An antifouling rubber sheet is bonded over the damping material. The system is particularly applicable to an existing internal punchplate type of sonar dome that does not allow the installation of damping materials on the internal window area of the dome.

  • Patent number: 3963094
Abstract: An enclosure for isolating noise sources composed of four walls and a ceiling, in which some or all of the sides and top consist of a muffler barrier including one or more air paths transverse to the principal direction of sound transmission through the structure. Various types of component muffler barriers are illustrated which include double leaf structures lined with sound absorbing material where the two leaves are disposed in spaced apart relation and include oppositely disposed air intakes and air exhausts to provide the intervening air paths. In one embodiment, components comprise corrugated panels of sound absorbing material disposed in face-to-face relation to provide multiple air channels.

  • Patent number: 3953675
Abstract: A sealed speaker enclosure formed from a loud speaker and five square shaped walls. Each wall forming the enclosure is constructed from a thin sheet of acoustically transmitting material and a plurality of perpendicularly intersecting ribs. These intersecting ribs are attached together at their intersections to form a rigid interconnecting rib structure. The rib structure extends across and is attached to one side of the sheet so that the ribs extend transverse to one side of the sheet. The walls are attached together at their edges to form a five sided enclosure. The rib structures of adjacent walls are in contact and attached together to add rigidity to the walls. The loud speaker is attached to the walls to form a sixth side of the enclosure.
