Patent number: 12042756Abstract: A vehicle air filter housing having a broad band tuner. The housing is formed from a tray having a divider wall defining an unfiltered air induction chamber and a tuner chamber. A cover securable to the tray includes a second divider wall defining a filtered air chamber and a flow path chamber. A filter member provides a seal between the tray and the cover, and holds an air filter between the unfiltered air chamber and the filtered air chamber. A plate securable to the flow path chamber has a plurality of perforations. Air inducted through the inlet passes through the air filter and flows through the flow path chamber at a velocity whereby the filtered air passes over the perforated plate and predetermined frequencies pass through the plate perforations for attenuation in the tuner chamber. The tuners in the tuner chamber may be sized to attenuate different frequencies.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2021Date of Patent: July 23, 2024Assignee: Toledo Molding & Die, LLCInventors: Jeffrey David Lapp, Nicholas Todd Konarski

Patent number: 7992676Abstract: A tuned acoustic attenuation device includes a housing defining a chamber within with air inlet and outlet channels opening into the chamber. An acoustic chamber or chambers are arranged on an exterior wall of or alternately within the housing and positioned to extend in a substantially lateral parallel relationship to the inlet or outlet channel and are configured as quarter wave tuners. The acoustic chambers may be realized within the housing by adapting housing stiffening support ribs of the housing. The acoustic attenuation characteristics of individual acoustic chambers cooperate to broaden the sound attenuation bandwidth or increase the attenuation at selected noise frequencies.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2010Date of Patent: August 9, 2011Assignee: Mann & Hummel GmbHInventors: Michael Desjardins, Keat Boon Mah

Patent number: 7942238Abstract: A marine muffler comprises an elongate cylindrical housing having an inlet and an outlet and defining an internal volume partitioned, by an angularly disposed internal baffle, into a lower chamber in communication with the inlet and an upper chamber in communication with the outlet. A vertically disposed duct is insertably secured to the baffle to allow exhaust gas and exhaust cooling water to flow from the lower inlet chamber to upper outlet chamber. The exhaust duct may preferably be further adapted with internal structure forming a plurality of individual flow conduits or passages. The duct is preferably positioned such that a plurality of flow passage inlets are positioned in proximity to the lower cylindrical housing wall, with flow passage outlets positioned in proximity to the upper housing wall. The lower duct wall may further be adapted with sidewall apertures for improving exhaust flow dynamics therethrough.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2009Date of Patent: May 17, 2011Inventors: Woodrow Woods, Darrin Woods, Craig McLeod

Patent number: 7934580Abstract: The present invention relates to a muffler facia assembly including a muffler with at least one thermoplastic shell formed into a facia assembly on a motor vehicle. The facia may be any suitable body part of a motor vehicle, such as a bumper, a rocker panel, an air dam, a spoiler, a sideboard or a body module. An assembly in accordance with the present invention includes structural members to provide crash management features to increase the strength and impact resistance. In accordance with the present invention, the long fiber thermoplastic material and moldings may also be combined with over-molding of preforms of unidirectional or woven inlays, which provide local structural performance. The use of such preforms is particularly suited to use in the manufacture of high temperature, structural articles such as bumper muffler combinations.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2006Date of Patent: May 3, 2011Assignee: OCV Intellectual Capital, LLCInventors: Peter Van de Flier, Luc Peters, Norman T.
