  • Patent number: 4730699
Abstract: A compact, easily transportable hunting stand for use by archery hunters or the like is provided which exhibits a high degree of stability when attached to a tree trunk and includes a unique mechanism for permitting precise leveling of the stand. Preferably, the tree stand of the invention includes a platform together with platform mounting means including a leveling screw mechanism permitting the stand to be attached to irregular tree trunks. Further, the mounting structure for the stand platform comprises compression struts and essentially eliminates tensile chains or cables extending about the stand platform; as such, the hunter is allowed complete freedom of movement and the stand seat may be rotated for a full 360 degrees to afford maximum visibility and freedom of action. In its collapsed condition, the stand may be carried on the back of a hunter in the manner of a backpack.

  • Patent number: 4723630
Abstract: An integrated tree climbing apparatus. The apparatus is in the form of a chair stand comprised of a seat rest and an adjustable foot rest. The two rests are connected to each other in a hinged relationship by supporting arms which extend past and straddle the tree and are engagable with a V-shaped knife clamp to effect a gripping action. The supporting arms are diagonally mounted on the side of the seat and a leg of the foot rest and are angled upward to accommodate the tree. The hinged aspect of the foot rest allows it to be moved to various angles according to the needs of the user. A V-brace is incorporated into the seat rest to complete the clamping structure. The rear V-shaped knife clamp is sheathed on its ends to slide on the supporting arms. Quick-connect linchpins are employed for simplicity and economy. Due to the hinging and pivotal connections of the members, the apparatus easily folds down into a compact unit as a simulated backpack frame for easy portability.

  • Patent number: 4589522
Abstract: The invention comprises a chair adapted to be used in conjunction with or retrofitted to a tree stand or the like. More particularly, the chair comprises a pair of legs supported in an angled, upright position by means of a pivotable support link. A crossmember maintains the legs in their spaced-apart position. The crossmember is positioned below the upper ends of the legs. The seat portion of the chair of the invention comprises a substantially U-shaped member including a pair of legs. The ends of the legs of the U-shaped member are pivotably connected to the ends of the chair legs, respectively. The back and seating portion of the seat of the invention comprises a length of a flexible material, such as canvas, which member forms a seat portion. The upper end of the flexible member is secured above the height of the chair by means of a rope or the like.

  • Patent number: 4582165
Abstract: A pack frame and tree stand assembly is comprised of two major components. A back engaging support platform serves as the pack frame in the back pack mode and as the tree engaging support platform in the tree stand mode. A pack carrying seat is the second main component and is carried by spaced framework members which are pivotably attached to the back engaging support platform. In the back pack mode this second component forms a shelf upon which a pack can be placed. By being rotated through generally about 90.degree., the pack carrying seat becomes the seat portion of the tree stand. The stand is attachable to a tree by a tree encircling line which is carried by, and is securable to the frame of the seat of the tree stand.

  • Patent number: 4579198
Abstract: A readily transportable, foldable tree stand for hunters. The stand preferably comprises a first, lower frame member adapted to be unfolded for deployment as a foot rest, and a second, cooperating frame member pivotally coupled in offset relation to said first frame member. The stand may be suspended upon the trunk of a tree or similar vertical support by suitable brackets adapted to grasp an adjustable-length support chain which circumferentially, frictionally surrounds the tree trunk. The second frame member is adapted to assume a generally vertical position after unfolding to function as a back rest for the hunter when deployed. A pair of rigid, cooperating, lateral support struts extend diagonally at the sides of the tree stand between the first and second frame members. Each support strut is articulated, consisting of first upper portions pivotally connected to second lower portions.

  • Patent number: 4553635
Abstract: A portable tree stand for use by hunters, nature observers and the like has a seat of weight-supporting mesh extending between a pair of rigid structural elements at the sides, and ropes at the corners for suspending the seat from branches of a tree extend along the inside of the structural elements for attachment of the seat. The tree stand is lightweight and rolls into a compact package for ease of transportation. In one embodiment, for safety of the user, the ropes and cords of the seat are of a color easily observable by a person on the ground.

  • Patent number: 4553634
Abstract: A tree stand having a platform, preferably separated in a front-to-rear dimension to form a pair of side-by-side hinged platform sections for swinging movement between an operative coplanar position and an inoperative collapsed position, a pair of opposed side supporting arms pivotally mounted to the side edges of the platform and projecting upward and rearward in an operative position for straddling a tree against which the rear edge of the platform is mounted, and a cross bar connectable to the rear ends of the supporting arms behind the tree for securing the tree stand to the tree trunk in operative position. The support arms are pivotally connected to the side edge portions of the platform in such a manner that they may be swung between the operative position and an inoperative position in which the support arms are colinear with the side edges of the platform member, so that the tree stand may be folded to a compact position for transport on the back of the operator.

  • Patent number: 4552246
Abstract: A portable tree stand foldable between transportable and operational positions primarily for use by hunters. The tree stand comprises a rigid, spike-equipped, seat for supporting the hunter above ground adjacent to and in contact with a selected tree, and a cooperating, rigid foot rest adapted to be operationally disposed in spaced-apart, generally parallel relation beneath the seat. The foot rest is pivotally mounted to a rigid, generally U-shaped yoke having upper ends pivotally secured to opposite sides of the seat frame. A pair of spike-equipped jaw members which are pivotally coupled to the seat frame extend rearwardly therefrom and are normally biased apart to a fully open, tree-engaging position. The jaw members include integral, outwardly diverging locking arm portions which are adapted to be drawn together by the hunter with a rope during stand installation to forcibly compress the jaw members in binding, substantially circumferential engagement with the selected tree.

  • Patent number: 4549635
Abstract: A portable foldable hunting stand comprises a rigid U-shaped tubular platform and a rigid elongated tubular seat support member foldably connected thereto. The seat support member has a plate at one end with a wide angle V-notch, for abutting the surface of a vertically extending object on which it is to be mounted, and a padded seat rotatably mounted at the other end. A spike is selectively extendable from the platform to engage the surface of the object. A link chain secured at one end of the plate is looped around the vertically extending member and has its other end releasably received in a slot in the plate to attach the erected stand in a substantially horizontal position. A rope looped around the vertically extending object and releasably secured to each platform leg prevents disengagement and increases stability of the stand in the erected position. The rope provides a shoulder sling for carrying the stand in the collapsed transporting position.
