  • Patent number: 9151268
Abstract: The wave energy convertor using oscillating pendulums includes a buoyant base, a support frame mounted to the buoyant base, and a power generating assembly coupled to the support frame. A plurality of annular rails is disposed on the support frame and a reinforcement member extends diametrically across each annular rail. The power generating assembly includes a plurality of pendulum arms rotatably mounted on a central axle extending coaxially through the reinforcement members. One or more dynamos are mounted to support plates on opposite ends of the pendulum arms, and rotors extend from the dynamos to ride on the inner surface of the annular rails. Undulation of the buoyant base riding the waves of a body of water causes the pendulum arms to oscillate. Rotation of the rotors generates current, which is collected by a current collection assembly and transmitted to an onshore facility for distribution.

  • Patent number: 7895934
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for generating energy through oscillatory motion requiring little input. Oscillatory motion is generated using a substantially circular trough containing a liquid, inflatable bags positioned below the trough and a movable weight. The trough is pivotally connected to a central point about which it oscillates. Sustained oscillatory motion is encouraged by inflating and deflating the bags in coordination with the movable weight within the trough and a biased member upon which the bags reside. The oscillatory motion may be captured and transferred to rotary motion which may be used to drive a generator.

  • Patent number: 4524283
Abstract: Described herein is a device for converting such forms of mechanical energy that comprise even slow and random movements, such as the waves of the sea, the flow of a river, the blowing of the wind, and the thermal expansion caused by the radiation of the sun, to a more useful form of high-speed rotation. The device comprises a shaft member rotatable in one direction only in relation to a frame and comprising a crank. A longitudinal actuating member is at one end connected to the shaft member and arranged to rotate the shaft member by means of its movements in relation to the frame. A spring connected at one end to the frame and at the other end to the crank stores the potential energy caused by the movements of the actuating member and releases it by causing the crank to turn the shaft member into rotation when the crank has passed a dead point determined by the actuating direction of the spring.

  • Patent number: 4002416
Abstract: A motor, preferably in the form of a pump, is primarily designed to be activated by the oscillating motion of waves and has a paddle disposed to oscillate about a stationary horizontal axis located in the plane of the paddle. The paddle is placed in the surf and so positioned where the wave action is greatest so that the force of the waves can act on the paddle to cause the paddle to oscillate back and forth, one cycle with each wave. Preferably, the paddle is disposed to depend from the stationary axis. This oscillating motion of the paddle is coupled to a suitable pump which pumps sea water. Preferably, the pump has a cylindrical housing concentric with the stationary axis. A radial vane is fixed to a shaft within the housing while the paddle is fixed to the shaft and disposed outside the housing. Suitable valves are provided in the housing to allow sea water to enter and exit under action of the oscillating vane.
