Patent number: 6138795Abstract: An apparatus in a forklift for detecting the height of a fork in stages. Two sensors are arranged longitudinally on the mast. Each sensor includes a switch that has two states. The state of each switch can be changed by movement of the fork. Each switch is connected to input terminals of a controller. The signal at each input terminal changes between two levels in accordance with the state of a corresponding switch. A memory in the controller stores data that defines the relationship between ranges of movement of the fork, or zones, and the combination of the signals. The controller judges the height of the fork when the combination of signals corresponds to a combination that exists in the data. The controller judges that there is an abnormality when the combination does not exist in the data. This permits detection of malfunctioning switches and a cut and a short-circuited wiring.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1999Date of Patent: October 31, 2000Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toyoda Jidoshokki SeisakushoInventor: Toshikazu Kamiya

Patent number: 6125970Abstract: A hydraulic device for a forklift is disclosed. The forklift includes a tilting mast and a fork supported by the mast so that the fork is lifted and lowered. A tilt cylinder operates to tilt the mast by means of oil supplied by a tilt valve. A restricting valve is arranged in an oil passage connecting the tilt cylinder with the tilt valve. When the mast is tilted with the fork carrying an object and located higher than a predetermined reference position, the restricting valve closes the oil passage so that the angle of the tilting mast is limited. A check valve is arranged between the tilt cylinder and the restricting valve. The check valve blocks oil flow from the tilt cylinder to the restricting valve so that the position of the mast is maintained. This prevents unintentional movement of the mast.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1998Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toyoda Jidoshokki SeisakushaInventors: Toshiyuki Takeuchi, Yasuhiko Naruse, Takeharu Matsuzaki, Shigeto Nakajima, Makio Tsukada

Patent number: 6092976Abstract: A tilt control valve controls the flow of hydraulic oil to actuate the tilt cylinders of a forklift mast. The tilt control valve is switched between two positions by the forklift operator by means of a tilt lever. When at one position, the tilt control valve stops flow of oil to the tilt cylinders, thereby prohibiting tilting of the mast. When at the other position, the tilt control valve permits oil flow to the tilt cylinders, thereby allowing tilting of the mast. A control valve is located between the tilt cylinders and the tilt control valve. A seat switch detects whether or not the operator is sitting on the seat. A CPU permits the operator to continue to operate the tilt cylinders to tilt the mast when out of the seat for a brief period. However, after the brief period, the CPU closes the control valve to prevent movement of the mast unless the operator has returned to the seat.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1998Date of Patent: July 25, 2000Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toyoda Jidoshokki SeisakushoInventor: Toshikazu Kamiya

Patent number: 6068088Abstract: A wafer lifter basket assembly includes a wafer lifter basket and a base, the base including a bracket and a bracket holder. The wafer lifter basket is mounted to the bracket, and the bracket holder is releasably connected to the bracket holder via spring-loaded plungers, which release upon the wafer lifter basket encountering a force of at least a predetermined level.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1995Date of Patent: May 30, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Warren Scott Brooks, Steven Todd Drexler, Kristen Erikson Jewell

Patent number: 5791440Abstract: A method and/or apparatus for reducing the maximum speed of a lift truck when a fork carriage exceeds a fork carriage trip height and a limit switch positioned at the trip height to detect trip height has failed. Using lift truck control signals, a calculated fork carriage height is determined and compared to the trip height which corresponds to the limit switch position. When the calculated height reaches the trip height and the limit switch does not provide a sensed signal, a latch is set in a non-volatile memory which limits the maximum truck speed until the limit switch is again operable.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1996Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: The Raymond CorporationInventors: Richard J. Patent number: 5746291Abstract: A floor conveyor vehicle, particularly a stacker, has a brake device and an adjustable floor panel guided in the vertical direction by way of a device and is held in several working positions by a locking device. The floor panel is guided in the vertical direction by a lifting frame on a column arranged on one side of the vehicle. The floor panel is constructed as an operating plate for a parking brake and, with a pedal plate for a service brake, is swivellably linked to the lifting frame on axes.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1996Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Assignee: Dr. Ing. h.c.F. Patent number: 5462136Abstract: The present invention features a method and an apparatus for preventing lift chains from becoming slack in a lift truck with a "man-up" feature installed. Lift trucks are generally those vehicles that feature hydraulically controlled lift masts with a chain supported fork carriage. Operators of these lift vehicles with the remote lift and lower feature are generally lifted and lowered by these masts, known in the trade as a "man-up" condition. It is quite desirable to prevent a slack chain condition in the man-up mast position. The invention features a pressure transducer for monitoring a drop in hydraulic fluid pressure established by the flow control valve that regulates the lowering speed of the mast during the remote mode, i.e., when the fork carriage is being lowered by the operator in the platform attached to the fork carriage.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1994Date of Patent: October 31, 1995Assignee: The Raymond CorporationInventors: John Schoenmaker, Gene R.
