    Abstract: A dampening device for a compensating cable operably engaged with an elevator car is provided, wherein the compensating cable includes two linear portions connected by an arcuate portion. A first guide including at least one roller member is disposed within the arcuate portion and is configured to dampen oscillation of the compensating cable. At least one sensor device is disposed within the arcuate portion and is capable of operably engaging at least one of the compensating cable and the at least one roller member to sense an entanglement condition of the compensating cable. In some instances, at least one sensor device is disposed outside the arcuate portion, in addition to or instead of the at least one sensor within the arcuate portion, and capable of operably engaging the compensating cable to sense a suspension rope stretch condition. An associated system and method are also provided.

    Abstract: Apparatus for restricting motion of an elevator car includes bars or other stiff, elongated members, which are extended outwardly from opposing ends of the elevator car, when the car is positioned in a specified zone of vertical displacement, above the lower edge thereof The displacement zone may be on the order of twelve inches. An elevator control, such as an inspection bank mounted on top of the elevator car, is then operated to move the elevator car slightly downward, to the lower edge of the displacement zone, whereupon the elongated members are brought into solid contact with respective complementary supporting members, joined to opposing elevator guide rails. As the elongated members are extended, a switching arrangement, electrically coupled to the control, is simultaneously actuated to prevent movement of the elevator car above the displacement zone while the elongated members are in their extended mode.

A safety Link mechanism is mounted on the cab and actuates the stop devices when the rotating speed of the governor pulley exceeds a predetermined speed.

The up valve unit is connected to a pump output and controls connection of the pump output to the elevator cylinder via a check valve. The down valve unit has an inlet for connection to the elevator cylinder, a variable orifice connected to a reservoir, and a valve member for controllably varying the size of the orifice to control the rate of descent of the elevator.
