Abstract: A power transmitting component that includes a housing, a case, a bearing, a bearing adjuster and a clip. The housing defines a bearing bulkhead and a threaded aperture that are disposed about an axis. The bearing is coupled to the case to support the case for rotation about the axis relative to the housing. The bearing adjuster is threadably engaged to the threaded aperture and abuts the bearing. The bearing adjuster has a plurality of circumferentially spaced-apart securing features. The clip has a mount and a set of mating securing features. The clip is received on the bearing bulkhead such that the mount is secured to the bearing bulkhead in a snap-fit manner and the set of mating securing features are engaged to a corresponding set of the securing features.
Abstract: An improved self-adjusting automatic slack adjuster for reducing slack in the brake of a vehicle is provided, in which an easily accessible external operating feature actuates a ball detent clutch to permit the automatic slack adjuster's adjustment mechanism to be readily disengaged, so as to allow smooth release and retraction of the brake linings of a vehicle brake without damage to the adjustment mechanism's components. When the torque applied to the external feature exceeds a predetermined torque, the balls of the ball detent clutch move out of their retaining detents, thereby disengaging the slack adjuster's worm shaft from the adjustment mechanism and permitting brake shoe retraction without resistance from the adjustment mechanism.
Abstract: A parking brake (10) having a drum containing first and second brake shoe portions (11, 12), a handbrake lever (18) pivoted (19) adjacent one end on one (11) of the brake shoe portions and a strut (20) extending between a first abutment on the handbrake lever and a second abutment (21) on the other (12) of the brake shoe portions. Pivoting of the handbrake lever relative to said one brake shoe portion (11) moves the strut (20) which in turn moves the other brake shoe portion (12) away from said one brake shoe portion to bring the shoe portions into contact with the drum thus applying the parking brake. One of the abutments is in the form of a biased wedging means (21) which acts on the strut (20) to take up all play in the thrust path between the handbrake lever (18) and the other brake shoe portion (12) via the strut.

Abstract: Brake apparatus includes a transmission unit for operatively connecting a brake pedal to a master cylinder, and the transmission unit is a mechanism capable of varying a ratio between an output amount of a push rod connected to a master cylinder and an operation amount of the brake pedal. Further, the transmission unit is constructed in such a manner that, in an initial operation region of the brake pedal, a ratio of the operation amount of the brake pedal to the output amount of the push rod is set to be greater than in another operation region immediately following the initial operation region.
Abstract: Improved apparatus for manually releasing and controlling an elevator hoist brake having a solenoid with a vertically-actuated, flanged plunger operable to drive the brake shoes apart in opposition to brake springs which normally urge the brake shoes into the locking position, said apparatus comprising a bar having one end insertable between said solenoid and the flange of said plunger and engageable therewith, a handle having an enlarged portion projecting downwardly adjacent the forward end which is pivotally secured to said bar at a point spaced from said one end of said bar, a lever pivotally attached to said bar and having a forward end located adjacent said one end of said bar and dimensioned to be insertable between said solenoid and said flange of said plunger and engageable therewith, a link member pivotally connected to said bar at a point spaced from the forward end of said link and from said one end of said bar and having said forward end of said link pivotally connected adjacent the rear end of s
Abstract: An all terrain vehicle comprises an engine located under a hingably mounted seat, the seat providing ready access to the engine for maintenance and repair. The engine is placed in the vehicle such that the crankshaft is parallel to the line of travel and the crankshaft is in line with the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. The engine has two output shafts. The front output shaft extends forwardly of the engine to a front differential on the front axle and the rear output shaft extends rearwardly to a rear differential on the rear axle. The front and rear output shafts are in communication with one another by gears which enables different ratios of revolution between-the front and rear axle. The all terrain vehicle is also equipped with a parking gear which locks the two output shafts and prevents rotation with respect to the transmission housing.
