  • Patent number: 6550589
Abstract: The invention discloses a brake shoe adjuster. In a preferred embodiment, the invention discloses floating adjusters with a single adjusting rod. One specifically disclosed embodiment shows an hydraulic adjuster with an adjusting rod, forming a plunger or piston, in an hydraulic cylinder, and driven by grease forced into the cylinder by a grease gun through a zerk grease fitting. Another specifically disclosed embodiment shows a mechanical adjuster with a rod, forming a rack, driven by a pinion gear.

  • Publication number: 20020162711
Abstract: The invention relates to a drum brake device (10), which is provided as a wheel brake for a motor vehicle. The invention proposes embodying the drum brake device (10) with a brake belt (14), which is disposed inside a brake drum (12) and can flex in the radial direction of the brake drum (12). Thrust exerted on one end (18) of the brake belt (14) with a simultaneous bracing of the other end (20) of the brake belt (14) causes the brake belt (14) to be pressed against the brake drum (12) from the inside and produces a braking moment. The invention has the advantage that a friction force exerted on the brake belt (14) by the brake drum (12) augments the thrust on the end (18) of the brake belt (14) and thus boosts the braking moment. Another advantage is that the brake belt (14) always rests uniformly against the brake drum (12) over its entire circumference, even, for example, when the brake drum (12) expands due to heating.

  • Patent number: 6412609
Abstract: A brake cable mounting structure for a drum brake, in which even if the distance from the brake mounting surface to the center of the brake shoes in the width direction is short, the layout of the brake cable mounting section and the mechanical expander is efficient and effectively provided. Further, the anchor only need to support the braking force, thereby making the device smaller and lighter. The brake cable mounting structure of this invention is characterized in that the inner cable of the brake cable extends out from the brake; and the guide pipe on which the outer casing of the brake cable is integrally fixed with the back plate.

  • Patent number: 6390248
Abstract: It is an object of this invention to provide a drum brake device which solves a problem of decreasing the strength of a back plate near an anchor block and reduces potential damage to the parking brake cable. A pivot lever 60 is pivotally mounted on one brake shoe 20. Upper and lower portions of the pivot lever functionally engage with the other brake shoe 30 via struts 81, 70. A parking brake actuator 90 which pivotally supports on the upper strut 81 and activates upon an activation of a parking brake is arranged to be adjacent to a service brake actuator which activates upon an activation of a service brake. Preferably an operational part of the parking brake actuator is projected out from the brake back plate.
