Abstract: Apparatus and method of recycling finished textile products into reusable fibers. The arrangement includes a confined chamber of diminishing width through which the textile product is moved. The chamber comprises a stationary side with rows of circumferentially arranged teeth separated by circumferentially arranged channels and a rotating side with radially arranged teeth separated by radially extending channels. The product is delivered to the channel where the teeth and the rotating action urge the product into and through the channel while progressively grinding and rendering it into fiber form.
Abstract: A method for starting or stopping each of at least two separately controllable roll-sets (22, 26, 34, 56) used for processing a yarn (Y) in a stretch-break process, each roll-set comrpising at least two rolls, the method is characterized by the step of each roll-set, changing the speed of each roll from an initial condition to a steady state condition in accordance with a predetermined sequence and in coordination with a change in speed of at least one of the other rolls, such that simultaneous complete breakage of a yarn (Y) being processed in a stretch-break process is minimized.

Abstract: A process for producing a flow of airborne fibers includes feeding a continuous length (2) of a thread bundle of fiber material from a stock (1) of fiber material through a roll press (4) which rotates at a rate of feed and with the thread bundle held fast in the nip between its rollers (11, 12), breaking off individual fibers from the thread bundle by means of a tearer (5), and carrying away the individual fibers broken off by the tearer by means of an air flow.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for stretch breaking fibers wherein the formation of relatively small (lengths less than 30 microns) fractured fibers is substantially reduced. This reduction is achieved by applying a dampening fluid to the bundle of fibers during stretch breaking to dampen shockwaves generated during the fracturing process. The fractured fiber bundle may be subsequently treated with a sizing material to improve bundle cohesiveness and handling characteristics.
