Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus of carding staple fibres like cotton. More particularly, the present invention is directed to an apparatus for carding of staple fibres with minimum number of moving parts and to reduce the need for close tolerances, especially where moving parts are involved, in order improve the manufacturability of the apparatus. Density of input tufts to the carding machine is reduced. Diameter of carding cylinder (7) is reduced, with corresponding increase in its rotational speed, to maintain the peripheral speed. An air guiding element (6) and at least air deflection elements (8) used for capturing long fibres on a perforated roller. This enables elimination of close-set moving parts and simplifications of design. Advantageously, the present invention minimizes the damage to the fibres so that they retain their natural and desirable properties.

Abstract: The invention provides a spun yarn comprising recycled carbon fibre, and a method for the production thereof. The recycled carbon fibre comprises discontinuous carbon fibre and, optionally, continuous carbon fibre, and may be recycled from various sources, such as end-of- life waste and manufacturing waste. The yarn which is produced shows the required degree of strength and durability, and can be used in all conventional composite manufacturing operations where virgin yarn is currently employed, such as woven fabric manufacture, unidirectional fabric manufacture, filament winding, pultrusion and the like.

Abstract: A cellucotton having a vertical structure that enables bi-directional elasticity, a production device and a method thereof are disclosed. During the production of the cellucotton having a vertical structure by lapping and stacking of fiber layers (3), multiple gaps are created in the longitudinal direction along the fiber layers, thereby enabling elasticity in the longitudinal direction; and disposed on the cellucotton having a vertical structure produced by lapping and stacking on the fiber layer are multiple fiber grooves (31), the fiber grooves enable elasticity in the transverse direction. The cellucotton has good elasticity in the longitudinal and transverse directions, and can therefore be used for car seat cushions, sofas, and women's underwear to avoid deformation arising from unidirectional expansions and contractions.

Abstract: A method and system for aligning nanotubes within an extensible structure such as a yarn or non-woven sheet. The method includes providing an extensible structure having non-aligned nanotubes, adding a chemical mixture to the extensible structure so as to wet the extensible structure, and stretching the extensible structure so as to substantially align the nanotubes within the extensible structure. The system can include opposing rollers around which an extensible structure may be wrapped, mechanisms to rotate the rollers independently or away from one another as they rotate to stretch the extensible structure, and a reservoir from which a chemical mixture may be dispensed to wet the extensible structure to help in the stretching process.

  • Patent number: 7578902
Abstract: An apparatus and method for manufacturing a multi-layer web product. A long fiber stream is directed around a rotating carding cylinder. Two combing cylinders are disposed adjacent the carding cylinder to comb a first web of long fiber and a second web of long fiber, respectively, from the carding cylinder. A first conveyor receives the first web from the first combing cylinder and transports the first web toward a layering point. Similarly, a second conveyor receives the second web from the second combing cylinder and transports the second web toward the layering point. A short fiber deposition unit is disposed adjacent the second conveyor and deposits short fibers onto the second web. At the layering point, the first conveyor deposits the first web onto the second web, with the short fibers sandwiched therebetween, to form a layered web product.

Abstract: A ventilated carding cylinder for allowing heat generated in the carding cylinder during operation to be dissipated. The carding cylinder includes an internal, longitudinally extending, air flow passage and impeller means provided therein for moving air through the air flow passage during operation of the carding cylinder. This movement of air aids in dissipating heat generated by the carding cylinder during the fiber carding process. Reduction of heat in the carding cylinder can minimize the risk of fire occurring in the fibers and also thermal growth of the cylinder during operation.

  • Patent number: 5446945
Abstract: A dehairing system with rotating cylinders bearing tines is provided to dehair fibers by forces, including centrifugal force. The dehairing system may include multiple dehairing units forming a dehairing processing line such that fibers for dehairing may be transferred upstream and downstream for extended dehairing. Each dehairing unit includes cylinders rotating at different and varying rotational speeds for transferring fibers between the cylinders, as well as between the units. A motor unit may be provided for rotating various cylinders such that they may impart rotation to other selected cylinders for accomplishing dehairing. Having different lengths and extending at different angles, the tines provided on the cylinders facilitate a brushing and/or flicking action for expelling contaminants.

  • Patent number: 4670944
Abstract: Cotton burrs and other trash from a cotton gin are processed by first passing them over a small screen to remove sand and other fine material. Thereafter, the burrs and other trash are ground in a hammer mill. After grinding, the material passed along a large screen having about 3/8" opening. Substantially all the burrs and trash will pass through the screen except for cotton lint which will not. The burrs and trash, without the lint, is then sized by screening through screens with successively smaller openings. The burrs and trash of any one size is further separated by air classification. The resulting product is a combination of three geometric shapes, fibers, flakes, and granules. The resulting product is a lignocellulose product having softwood lignin precursors.

  • Patent number: 4458382
Abstract: In a device for carding, cleaning or opening fibre tufts. An improvement comprises two or more rotating working members or organs (1, 2, 3) which have intersecting planes of rotation and they are arranged to make the fibres fed in at one end move in addition in an axial direction and pass through the lines of close proximity repeatedly in several changed planes of rotation, so that the fibres are worked by a high proportion of the working points before being doffed at the other end or "out" feed. In relation to the dimensions of the working members or organs, the fibres can dwell on the average a longer time in the device so modified and come into contact with a greater proportion of the wire points or pins in the system. This provides for and makes adequate processing of the fibres possible particularly with smaller units in comparison with conventional systems.

  • Patent number: 4011631
Abstract: At least one assembly grouping of cooperating cylindrical rollers comprising a rotatable worker and a rotatable stripper roller is mounted in specific relation to a rotatable carding drum. The worker roller performs a pick-up and retaining function in that it picks up the fibrous web from the carding drum, retains the fibrous web thereon and delivers it onto the stripper roller whereon the web is combed, cleaned and discharged onto the carding drum. This operation may be repeated a plural number of times until the web is discharged from the carding drum. The worker and stripper rollers are rotatably journalled in the carding drum housing, both rollers being rotatable in a first direction, while the carding drum is rotatable in a second direction. The carding drum and rollers have a planetary arrangement. In the arrangement of the rollers relative to the carding drum, the worker roller is mounted upstream relative to the stripper roller. The gauge distances among the drum and rollers is constant.
