  • Patent number: 5950413
Abstract: A spinning apparatus is disclosed according to the invention having a drafting zone comprising at least four roll pairs for drawing a sliver comprising one or more types of staple fibers. The rolls pairs include a back roll pair, intermediate roll pairs and a front roll pair and the distance between the nip of the back roll pair and the nip of the adjacent intermediate roll pair, and the distances between the nips of adjacent intermediate roll pairs is no more than the effective fiber length of the longest staple fiber type in the sliver. The drafted sliver may be spun into yarns at high speeds, such as the speeds used in air jet spinning apparatus to provide yarns having increased strength and reduced defects. The present invention also includes a method of forming high quality and high uniformity yarns by advancing a sliver through a drafting apparatus and thereafter spinning the sliver into yarn.

  • Patent number: 5638580
Abstract: Worsted grade all-wool of fair quality can be spun on cotton spinning system. Wool top is processed at first passage of cotton drawing frame instead of gill, with cutting and drafting with suitable distance between front and third rollers. Second and back top rollers are removed so that wool sliver which is more uniform and which has a shorter staple length distribution can be processed with roller drafting only. The second to last passage is processed with the same distance between the front and third roller as the first passage and also has the second and back top rollers removed. The sliver is fed through three (3) pairs of the rollers and one pair of aprons of a cotton roving frame, the draft is the same distance as the first passage of drawing process between front and back rollers and uses an engraved middle top roller. Yarn is spun on a cotton ring frame by drafting the fed roving through three pairs of rollers and one pair of aprons.

  • Patent number: 4461058
Abstract: A drawing frame with a drawing region or with two independent drawing regions includes, as a whole, four or more so-called drawing and control rollers. These latter all comprise pressure rollers with barrel rubbers. The control roller situated immediately upstream of the draw-off or "total" drawing roller is arranged in such a position that its periphery is separated from that of the drawing roller by a narrow gap. The ratios between the diameters and the speeds of rotation of these rollers is selected in such a way that the peripheral velocity of the "total" drawing roller is significantly greater than the peripheral velocity of the adjacent control roller. Consequently, an upwardly directed flow of air is created which removes the floating fibres which would otherwise tend to form windings or so-called "rolls".
