  • Patent number: 6154931
Abstract: A method of operating a draw frame including a plurality of serially arranged roll pairs each defining a nip through which a fiber sliver passes from roll pair to roll pair. Each roll pair is formed of an upper roll and a lower roll. A pressing arm carries the upper rolls, and pressing devices are accommodated in the pressing arm for pressing each upper roll against a respective lower roll. The method comprises the following steps: during the working state of the draw frame, passing the sliver consecutively through the roll pair nips while the pressing devices press the upper rolls against respective lower rolls, and during an interruption of the working state the upper output roll is relieved of pressing forces to an extent that at the most only an insubstantial pressure is exerted by the upper output roll on the sliver situated in the nip between the upper output roll and the lower output roll.

  • Patent number: 6134752
Abstract: A pneumatically energized loading mechanism for a drafting device is proposed for loading the upper rolls of the device. This mechanism possesses pneumatic cylinders which subject the upper rolls to a force, which acts from a holder plate (4) for the securement of the cylinder (2). The support is effected by a stop plate (200), which acts in unison with holder plate (4). The cylinder (2) possesses a guide surface (201) positioning the cylinder on the support (4). The cylinder (2) exhibits a piston with a circular cross-section and is comprised of plastic. The cylinder (2) is affixed to the holder (4) by a securement means (20). By the support of the cylinder (2) on the holder (4), the securement means (20) need accept no force engendered by the piston. The cylinder (2) simultaneously forms a passage for a current bus which serves as the power cutoff of the drafting device when fiber windup difficulties arise.

  • Patent number: 5953793
Abstract: A textile sliver drawing unit includes a roller assembly for advancing and drawing a sliver running therethrough. The roller assembly includes an upper roll and a lower roll cooperating with the upper roll. The drawing unit further has a pressing device for pressing the upper roll against the lower roll during operation. The pressing device includes a pivotally supported pressing arm having an inwardly pivoted operational position and an outwardly pivoted inoperative position; a force-generating device carried by the pressing arm; a movable member coupled to the force-generating device and engageable at least indirectly with the upper roll for transmitting a force from the force-generating device to the upper roll for pressing on the lower roll; and a carrier element mounted on the pressing arm and being settable into locking and unlocking positions.

  • Patent number: 5799374
Abstract: A spinning machine for the doubling or stretching of fiber bands with a rolling section having lower rolls which are secured in journal blocks, and wherein the upper rolls may be also secured on said journal blocks with pressure means for the loading of said upper rolls, it is proposed that the pivoting axis of the pressure arm for the placement of the pressure means to the upper rolls be arranged in such a way that, when observed in the running direction of the fiber band, said axis lies behind the rolling section. Advantageously, what is achieved thereby, is that the spinning machine can be maintained in a considerably simpler and quicker manner. Following the upward pivoting of the pressure arm, the entire area of the rolling section becomes freely accessible. The pivoting geometry of the pressure arm can be so varied, that the upper rolls can be easily restored into the guides on the journal blocks of the lower rolls.

  • Patent number: 5477591
Abstract: A bearing device for use in textile drafting roller pairs for supporting the top roller of a drafting roller pair. The bearing device finds particular use with magnetic drafting rollers, but can be used with other types of roller configurations. The bearing device allows for the top roller to be selectively positioned with respect to the bottom roller in order to allow removal of the top roller and to prevent deformation of cots or aprons provided thereon during machine stoppage. A rotating debris excluding interface is also provided through interaction of the bearing device and the end of a roller. Handles are attached to the bearing device for allowing extraction of the top roller from a roller pair, and ribs may be provided on the bearing device or receptacle therefor to facilitate piecing up of a broken yarn. Related methods of use of the bearing device are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4969238
Abstract: A textile drafting apparatus of the type having upper and lower drafting rollers forming a plurality of roller nips for travel therebetween of a textile strand includes a carrier member for adjustably supporting the upper drafting rollers. The textile drafting apparatus includes a force-applying member for applying a downward roller nip force through the carrier member to the rollers. The force-applying member is intermediately transversely offset from the longitudinal center line of the carrier member for permitting access to attaching studs for sliding of the attaching studs in longitudinal slots on the carrier member to adjust the position of the upper drafting rollers in the carrier member. According to another aspect of the present invention, the textile drafting apparatus includes a template device for positioning an upper drafting roller at a predetermined spacing from the pivoting shaft of the carrier member.

  • Patent number: 4923495
Abstract: A latch mechanism adapted to lock a movable pull roll support to a fixed pull roll support in a mineral fiber attenuation apparatus. A latch arm is pivotally attached intermediate its length to the movable support and is spring biased into locking engagement with a latch seat on the fixed roll support. The latching surface of the latch arm and the mating surface of the latch seat are substantially perpendicular to a plane extending through the end of the latch seat and the pivotal attachment. This causes the latch to release upon relatively low pressure being applied to the opposite end of the latch arm.
