Abstract: A waterproof equipment carrying bag consisting of an outer unit and an inner unit which when unfolded convert into mats. Additionally the mats can be secured to each other by means of Velcro strips to create a longer mat. Nylon webbing sewn to the covering of the outer unit comprise a carrying handle and provide structural support when in the carrying or bag mode.
Abstract: A container (20) for carrying fragile and delicate items, such as cameras, instruments, or the like, comprises a soft or rigid casing and an inner inflatable envelope (34) made of a resilient air-impermeable material. The inner envelope (34) is removable and is inserted into a space formed between the inner surface of the container (20) and a permanent liner (32) which is attached to the casing, leaving an opening for inserting the inflatable envelope into said space. The container is equipped with a pump for inflating the inner envelope (34). The pump is made in the form of a rubber bulb (42) with a check valve (44), a manually operated air release valve (46), and an automatic safety valve (48). This container can be embodied in the form of a suitcase, a briefcase, a wig tote, etc. It protects its contents from rough handling and accidental dropping by the energy-absorbing effect of the inflatable envelope and by the tight holding effect provided by the variable inflatability of the envelope.
Abstract: Three luggage embodiments are disclosed. Each embodiment comprises outer and inner layers of flexible material. A series of closely adjacent parallel battens are sandwiched between the layers, there being rows of stitching between battens which form sheath-like pockets in which the battens are contained. The layers are also stitched at the ends of the battens. Handles are riveted to two battens, a zipper extending therebetween.
Abstract: A suitcase which includes a lip element along the abutment edge of the lower part of the suitcase so as to circumvent the suitcase and form a seat for the abutment edge of the suitcase upper part, the lip element including a portion which extends outwardly with respect to the suitcase to mount a flexible plastic band element which itself extends circumferentially around the suitcase. The plastic band element, which can include an embedded metal foil, is shaped to contact and seal against the upper and lower parts of the suitcase when they are positioned together to close the suitcase, and thus also to hide the butt joint when the suitcase is closed.
Abstract: A resilient U-shaped steel band has its upper ends adjustably attached by means of slotted angle irons to a rigid saddle composed of a panel of fiberboard and a strip of plywood secured thereto. A bottom plate overlies the horizontal section of the band. Fabric sheet material constitutes the outer cover for the luggage being stitched to the fiberboard. A relatively heavy fabric belt is stitched to the cover along the edges of the band, thereby providing a sheath for the band and preventing transverse shifting thereto.
