Abstract: A wheeled suitcase wherein the wheels are easily removed and attached to the suitcase. The axles of the wheels are received in sleeves which are integrally connected to the hinges of the suitcase in order to facilitate manufacture. A detent is provided for releasably securing the axles in place. In one form of the invention the detent is protected from damage by a housing which is also integral with the hinges.
Abstract: A wheel assembly is detachably connected to a mounting plate assembly that s attached to a corner of a luggage case. One assembly has a latch member resiliently urged into overlying relationship with an aperture that receives a tab on the other assembly, such tab having a cam surface that engages and displaces the latch member as the assemblies are being brought together, and a notch within which the latch member snaps after the assemblies are brought together thereby detachably retaining the one assembly to the other. An extension on the latch member is manually accessible allowing it to be manually displaced out of the notch to detach the assemblies.

Abstract: Wheel assembly for a container or suitcase comprising a wheel casing adapted to be secured in the container or suitcase and a wheel mounted in a rotatable wheel fork which is movably disposed in the wheel casing so that the wheel can be moved between a parking position in which only a small portion of the wheel projects beyond the wheel casing and a wheeling position outwardly of the casing, the wheel fork being rotatably mounted in a bearing block which is disposed in the wheel casing to be displaceable between an inner and an outer position in which latter position it can be pivoted in the plane of the wheel casing.
Abstract: A roller unit for use as a caster for luggage, for example, has a sturdy -piece roller housing formed of sheet metal, the housing comprising a rectangular base with raised pads at opposite ends thereof and a roller-receiving shell defined by a pair of opposed U-shaped walls bent from opposite longitudinal edge regions of the base between the pads. Roller units are manufactured seriatim by metal forming operations that do not require deep-drawing.

Abstract: The ground wheels of a wheeled suitcase are provided with axles, and mounting means are formed on the suitcase to permit the axles to be readily secured and removed.
Abstract: The ground wheels of a wheeled suitcase are provided with a mount and a socket is fixed to the suitcase to permit the wheels to be readily secured and removed. The socket provided on the suitcase is of minimal thickness and formed so as to obviate snagging with adjacent articles while the suitcase is being transported in the normal manner without wheels.
Abstract: Support accessories for luggage which make possible the alternative use of conventional supporting cleats and rollers, depending upon the desires of the user. Retainers of molded plastic are affixed to the luggage for interchangeably accommodating plates bearing feet or bumpers, if a conventional bearing support is desired, or optionally plates of the same dimensions bearing wheeled rollers, if luggage having a rolling capability is desired. The base plates of the retainers are provided with integrally molded projections and a medial recess therebetween to retain the detachable plates more securely while in operation and to facilitate the detachment thereof when a change is to be made.
Abstract: A retractable pull strap, string, chain or cord for wheeled luggage wherein a casing with a spring wound spool is mounted in the luggage adjacent an opening through which the strap, string, chain or cord may be drawn. The handle may be ornamental, have the logo of the manufacturer, carry an identification tag or be removable or replaceable.

Abstract: A combined luggage case and collapsible trolley includes storable collapsed trolley members which are telescopically slidable to hold additional luggage between the extended members and the luggage case. A foldable wheel assembly, storable within a wall of the luggage case, includes a sleeve which is rotatable about one of the extendable members, and slidable to a lockable position to provide additional clearance above ground. In one embodiment, the entire trolley framework is detachable from the luggage case and can be removed when the trolley feature is not desired.
Abstract: The luggage case has a pair of wheels located at a lower back edge such that when the case rests on a flat surface, the wheels are held spaced from the floor surface. On lifting the case side opposite that including the wheels, the wheels are brought into rolling contact with the floor. A handle assembly is foldably received into the side wall opposite that including the wheels and can be selectively folded outwardly into a position for pulling or pushing, or, when not in use, folded into a receiving recess formed in the case side wall. A spring-loaded latch mechanism secures the handle within the recess during nonuse, and a finger release enables selective extension of the handle outwardly from the case wall for easy access when it is desired to move the case.

Abstract: A plurality of recesses are formed in the bottom of a suitcase in spaced relation with each other. A plurality of mounting devices are provided, each movably mounted in a corresponding one of the recesses. Each of a plurality of wheels is rotatably mounted on a corresponding one of the mounting devices. A control system in the suitcase selectively controls the movement of the mounting devices in the recesses in a manner whereby the wheels are spaced from the bottom of the suitcase for supporting the suitcase in one position and are retracted into the recesses in another position.
Abstract: A luggage transport structure for use with a suitcase having wheels mounted thereon for supporting said suitcase. A channel is formed on the outer periphery of the suitcase and a housing positioned on the interior of the suitcase adjacent a portion of the channel. A handle is positioned in the housing which is retractable and extendable out of the housing. When the handle is extended from the suitcase it can be used to roll the suitcase along a floor. In its retracted position the handle is positioned within the channel and is flush with the outer dimensions of the suitcase.
