Coil Spring Type Patents (Class 192/12BA)
  • Patent number: 4006853
Abstract: A fast forward drive for a cartridge tape player comprises upper and lower crescents which increase the effective capstan diameter in the fast forward mode. At normal playing speed the crescents index with respect to a received tape cartridge such that the capstan's surface forcibly engages the cartridge's pressure roller. When the fast forward mode is desired a clutch couples the upper crescent to the capstan for rotation therewith. Rotational drive of the upper crescent is coupled to the lower crescent, at a predetermined phasing relationship, through a pin and trough arrangement, whereby fast forward is effected. On return to the normal play speed the upper crescent is fixedly indexed, resulting in a decreased lower crescent rotational drive and thus an increased chance of improper lower crescent alignment.

  • Patent number: 3990792
Abstract: In a copying apparatus having an original carriage and an optical system, a reciprocating movement control device comprises a drive source for driving a photosensitive medium and drive transmission means effective only during forward movement to transmit the drive of the drive source to cause relative movement of the original carriage and the optical system. Righting moment accumulator means is provided for accumulating therein a righting moment with the aid of the drive source during the forward movement to cause backward movement of the original carriage or the optical system. The drive transmission means may be released by a scanning completion signal to thereby permit the righting moment accumulated in the accumulator means during forward movement to backwardly move the original carriage or the optical system and to control the speed of the backward movement.

  • Patent number: 3987880
Abstract: A spring clutch for a step drive, such as for form feeds in office machines, comprising drive and driven hubs rotatable about a common axis and having respective axially adjacent parts surrounded by a coil torsion spring which, in an unstressed condition, has a diameter greater than that of the hub parts, the spring having one end anchored for rotation with the drive hub, and the other end coupled to a clutch actuating member through the intermediary of a slip clutch mechanism having a slip torque which is greater than the torque required to wind the coil torsion spring onto the hub parts.

  • Patent number: 3985212
Abstract: A clutch assembly which provides selective output drive especially adapted for use in incrementally driving a platen and tape reader mechanism for use in printers. An output gear is freewheelingly mounted upon the clutch assembly driven shaft and is mechanically linked to a free wheeling cam through a helical spring wound tightly about the driven shaft. The free wheeling cam is provided with at least one notch for selective engagement by a pivotally mounted solenoid actuated latch. When the latch is disengaged from the free wheeling cam, the spring is rotated by the driven shaft and imparts its rotation to both the output gear and the cam. Upon actuation of the solenoid, the latch member engages the free wheeling cam member to restrain it from rotation, causing the helical spring to unwrap itself (i.e., loosen) about the shaft and stop the output gear from rotating.

  • Patent number: 3979975
Abstract: An armature winding machine having an indexing mechanism for indexing the armature. The indexing mechanism includes an indexing clutch driven by an electric motor. A gear drive connects the clutch to the holding structure for the armature. The indexing clutch has a control collar that is selectively engaged with a plurality of pawls operable to stop the control collar at predetermined precise rotational positions. The positions of the pawls relative to the control collar are individually adjustable on a support providing for selective adjustment of the indexing positions of the clutch.

  • Patent number: 3978947
Abstract: A clutch-brake assembly includes input and output hubs, respectively, fixed and journaled on a rotatable shaft. A coil spring secured for movement with the output hub normally is wound into driving engagement between the input and the output hubs. A sleeve telescoped over the spring is fixed to the output hub and a low inertia braking member loosely mounted on the free end of the sleeve is held against substantial movement in both radial and axial directions with respect to the sleeve. In one form of the invention, a tang on the spring projects into a slot in the braking member and thus connects the member with the spring so the member normally rotates with the shaft but, when a braking torque is applied to the member, the spring is unwound from between the two hubs to disengage from them and subsequently to transmit the braking torque to the output hub to retard rotation thereof. In another form of the invention, a tang is integrally formed with the braking member to engage the input end of the spring.

  • Patent number: 3975843
Abstract: A power spade which is hand operated by one man and does the work of a common pick and shovel is disclosed. The power spade is designed to operate in confined and restricted areas where larger wheeled or track-conveyor power shovels, ditch diggers, trenches, etc., cannot operate. The invention comprises a portable one-man operated shovel type digger which has an upright frame supporting an endless chain that has a number of buckets attached thereto. A small electric or gasoline motor is coupled to the frame and drives the endless chain on which the buckets are disposed. An operator holds the frame in position by grasping the handle and by bracing with one foot a lever stirrup assembly. Direction of the digging is controlled by the operator tilting the frame and pushing or pulling on the bracing lever with his foot. The buckets have formed sidewalls which are rigidly attached to a chain and bottoms which are pivotally mounted on the chain, and capable of engaging a cam, thereby ejecting soil contained therein.

  • Patent number: 3974713
Abstract: The present disclosure describes a multi-stroke parking brake control that includes a pulley connected to a parking brake cable and a brake pedal arranged to drive the pulley. The pulley has a large gear in mesh engagement with a driving pinion supported by the brake pedal and a holding pinion supported by the control housing. A one-way helical spring clutch drivingly interconnects the driving pinion and the pedal when the pedal is moved in a direction to tension the brake cable. A similar spring cable interconnects the holding pinion and the housing and functions to hold the gear and pulley in a brake applied condition. A release mechanism is arranged to release the second one-way helical spring clutch to permit the pulley and brake cable to move to a released position under the force of a release spring. This construction of a parking brake control permits the brake pedal to be stroked a plurality of times to tension the brake cable as desired.
