Patent number: 8695771Abstract: The object of the invention is to provide a lockup device that can improve a fuel efficiency of a vehicle. The lockup device (6) has a piston (61), an output plate (63), a first coil spring (65), an inertia member (64), and a second coil spring (66). The output plate (63) is coupled to a turbine (4) such that it can rotate as an integral unit with the turbine (4). The first coil spring (65) elastically couples the piston (61) to the output plate (63) in a rotational direction. The inertia member (64) is provided such that it can rotate relative to the output member (63). The second coil spring (66) elastically couples the inertia member (64) to the output plate (63) in a rotational direction.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2009Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignee: EXEDY CorporationInventors: Yoshihiro Matsuoka, Mitsugu Yamaguchi, Takeshi Kawamoto, Kazuhiro Yamashita, Kazuaki Oomoto

Patent number: 6923305Abstract: A driven disk is disclosed that includes an inner hub and an outer hub secured to at least one cover plate. The driven disk includes a predamper having a driving element and a driven element. The driving element includes the cover plate and the driven element includes a predamper driven plate fixed to the inner hub. The cover plate includes a number of apertures and the predamper driven plate includes a number of sockets at least partially aligned with the apertures in the cover plate. An energy storage member is disposed within the apertures in the cover plate and the sockets in the predamper driven plate for absorbing torque as a function of relative rotation between the inner hub and the outer hub.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2003Date of Patent: August 2, 2005Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventors: Holly B. Patent number: 6299539Abstract: A compact friction plate damper having a primary plate and a secondary plate, which interacts by means of a friction element. A speed-dependent control device is provided for the friction, wherein the friction device has a contact arrangement upon which force is to be exerted essentially radially. The friction control device comprises a spring element, which takes effect with rotational speed-dependent force on the contract arrangement in an essentially radial manner. In addition to this, the friction device interacts by friction with the secondary plate, and is mounted so as to be rotationally movable in relation to the primary plate by at least a small angle. Thus the friction control comprises a rotational speed-dependent coupling element between the primary plate and the friction device.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1999Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Assignee: Rohs Voigt Patentverwertungs-gesellschaft mbHInventors: Ulrich Rohs, Hans Rohs, Dietmar Heidingsfeld

Patent number: 6293870Abstract: A damper disc assembly having multiple embodiments. In one embodiment, spring seats are arranged at opposite ends of coil springs disposed between a power input rotary member and a power output rotary member. Each spring seat has a contacting surface with mutually perpendicular slanting portions. In another embodiment, a modified spring seat determines a phase or orientation of the power input rotary member with respect to the power output rotary member. In a third embodiment, a friction element is formed of resin and includes a friction adjusting element. The body portion of the friction element is made of resin and includes a friction generating surface that contacts a side surface of the sub-plate. The fiction adjusting element is provided in the friction generating surface of the body portion by molding and modifies the friction coefficient thereof. In a fourth embodiment, the friction element has a coating applied to a friction surface which modifies the friction coefficient.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1999Date of Patent: September 25, 2001Assignee: Exedy CorporationInventors: Tamio Nagano, Saburo Nakanishi, Yoshitaka Kitamura, Hideyuki Imanaka, Hiroshi Uehara

Patent number: 6209701Abstract: A clutch disk assembly 1 includes a second plate 13, an output rotary member 4, an intermediate body 3, an intermediate member 9b, second springs 10, third springs 5 and a damper 8. The intermediate body 3 is disposed radially outside the output rotary member 4. The intermediate member 9b is disposed near the output rotary member 4 and the intermediate body 3. The second plate 13 is located on a second axial side of the intermediate body 3. The second springs 10 circumferentially and elastically couple the plate 9b and the intermediate body 3 together. The third springs 5 circumferentially and elastically couple the intermediate body 3 and the second plate 13 together. The damper 8 is axially shifted from the intermediate body 3. The damper 8 has first springs 7 circumferentially and elastically coupling the output rotary member 4 and the plate 9b together.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2000Date of Patent: April 3, 2001Assignee: Exedy CorporationInventors: Hideki Hashimoto, Keisuke Fujioka
