    Abstract: A clutch unit includes a lever-side clutch part to control transmission and interruption of rotational torque input through lever operation, and a brake-side clutch part to transmit the rotational torque from the lever-side clutch part to an output side, and interrupt rotational torque reversely input from the output side. The brake-side clutch part includes a cover constrained in rotation, an output shaft to output the rotation, an inner ring to receive the rotational torque input from the lever-side clutch part, and a cylindrical roller to control interruption of the rotational torque from the output shaft and transmission of the rotational torque from the inner ring through engagement and disengagement between an outer ring and the output shaft. The inner ring includes a slide gear which meshes with the cover during interruption of the rotational torque and is released from the meshing state during transmission of the rotational torque.

A shield (203) works with the rotatable bearing (215, 223) for preventing sparks or other debris from being projected toward a user. A brake lever (241) is attached to the shield (203) for allowing the user to position the shield (203) at a predetermined position in relation to the rotating disc. The shield (203) is configured to cover approximately one-half (½) of the rotating disc (207) such that the position of the shield (203) can be easily rotated through use of the brake lever (241) for enabling the user to move the shield (203) such that the rotating disc (207) can access a workpiece.

The sprocket support body has an outer peripheral surface with a first helical spline. The first ratchet member has at least one first ratchet tooth and a second helical spline mating with the first helical spline. The second ratchet member has at least one second ratchet tooth mating with the at least one first ratchet tooth and a hub shell engagement portion that engages the hub shell The outer peripheral surface of the sprocket support body has a guiding portion that guides the first ratchet member toward the hub shell while coasting.

    Abstract: A wheel driving device for a pedal propelled cycle, includes an axle coupled with cranks and driven to rotate synchronously by a pedaling force. A coupling socket is movable axially as a result of a rotation of the axle between a fully engaged position, where it is in a full threaded engagement with the axle and frictionally engages a hub shell so as to move a wheel body forward, and a partially engaged position, where it is in a partial threaded engagement with the axle as a result of a screwing-out movement due to backpedaling, and disengages from the hub shell so as to place the wheel body in a freewheeling state. Further backpedaling results in a frictional engagement of the coupling socket with a brake member so as to brake the hub shell and the wheel body.
