Patent number: 8538642Abstract: A range determination apparatus for preventing a shift range from being undefined during speed change states of an automatic transmission with no manual valve. The range determination apparatus includes a gear speed change mechanism and a plurality of friction engagement elements operative to have respective operation states changed between an engagement and a disengagement state. The range determination apparatus is used for automatic transmissions subject to speed changes via a torque transmission path of the gear speed change mechanism changed by the operation states of the friction engagement elements. A real shift range determination is carried out on the basis of the operation states of the friction engagement elements, where a T-ECU is operative to determine a current shift range based on detection results obtained by oil pressure sensors and operation patterns preliminarily memorized when the operation states of the friction engagement elements are not being changed.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2009Date of Patent: September 17, 2013Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Naoki Itazu, Yoshinobu Nozaki

Publication number: 20120193188Abstract: A solenoid pump and associated hydraulic circuitry are intended for use in automatic transmissions capable of engine start stop (ESS) operation. In a first embodiment, a solenoid pump provides pressurized hydraulic fluid to respective inputs of two way check valves. The other inputs are provided with controlled hydraulic fluid from a transmission valve body. The outputs of the check valves are provided to those hydraulically operated torque transmitting devices associated with first gear. The solenoid pump is activated when the transmission is in gear and the engine is stopped to maintain hydraulic pressure in those actuators associated with first gear in order that a first gear vehicle launch may be quickly and smoothly achieved when the engine is restarted. A second, similar embodiment provides hydraulic fluid to actuators associated with reverse gear.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 31, 2011Publication date: August 2, 2012Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: Vijay A. Publication number: 20110143876Abstract: A transmission for a vehicle with a clutch and/or a brake which is hydraulically actuated by a cylinder and a piston actuator. A pressure chamber is located between the cylinder and the piston and a hydraulic pressure medium flows into the pressure chamber via an inlet. The pressure medium is supplied to the pressure chamber via a component fixed on the housing, a rotary passage between the fixed component and the rotatable component and then via the rotatable component. The radial distance of the radial middle of the rotary passage is larger than the smallest radial distance and smaller than the largest radial distance of the pressure chamber from the rotation axis of a central shaft of the automatic transmission. The radial arrangement of the rotary passage, between the radially smallest and largest diameters of the pressure chamber, neutralizes centrifugally generated forces on the pressure medium in the pressure chamber.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 19, 2010Publication date: June 16, 2011Applicant: ZF FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AGInventors: Horst ROEGNER, Gabor DIOSI
