Brake Band Patents (Class 192/36)
  • Patent number: 4185723
Abstract: A power transfer mechanism incorporated in a multiple path drive system comprises a transfer case disposed between a source of input torque and a pair of drive axles. Torque is transferred directly to the fixed axle and, when required, is transferred automatically to the steering axle through a double-acting overrunning clutch. A friction clutch provides a preset constant friction drive through a separate path in parallel with the overrunning clutch for independent torque transfer from the steering axle to the fixed axle.

  • Patent number: 4184575
Abstract: A power transfer mechanism incorporated in a multiple path drive system comprises a transfer case disposed between a source of input torque and a pair of drive axles. Torque is transferred directly to the fixed axle and is transferred automatically to the steering axle through a double-acting overrunning clutch when required. The clutch is biased toward one engaged position and is prevented from locking inadvertently in the other engaged position by a cam operated blocking device. The device also assists in biasing the clutch.

  • Patent number: 4154121
Abstract: A unidirectional clutch mechanism for use in a toy vehicle or the like having an inertia motor energized by a spring-return drawstring mechanism having a drive spool receiving the drawstring and the return spring, the drive spool having a drive disc portion with an integral square shank loosely encircled by a clutch disc with a circumferentially disposed slot engaged by an arcuate projection on the surface of the drive disc, the projection being shorter in length to allow relative motion between the discs. The opposite surface of the clutch disc is provided with a pair of diametrically opposed bearing members, each pivotally receiving a pawl of a unitary spring member having a square portion engaging the square shank with spring portions extending therefrom to pivot said pawls upon relative motion between the shank and the clutch disc.

  • Patent number: 4132297
Abstract: A power transfer mechanism incorporated in a multiple path drive system comprising a source of input torque, a transfer case, and a pair of drive axles having equal axle ratios. Torque is transferred directly to the first drive axle and, when required, is transferred automatically to the second drive axle through a path including a freewheel device. Another path is provided in parallel with the freewheel device for torque transfer from the second drive axle to the first drive axle.

  • Patent number: 4126214
Abstract: A positive one-way clutch system providing positive non-frictional engagement between the driving and driven members in drive mode and complete dragless disengagement between the driven and driving members in free-wheeling or over-run mode. When in the driving mode, engagement between the driving and the driven members is effected by at least one and preferably a plurality of solid torque bars displaceable by an automatic positioning device between a retracted position, providing free-wheeling or over-run, to an engaged position with the end of the torque bars in positive abutting engagement with appropriate corresponding positive clutch teeth of the other member. Diverse arrangements of positioning devices are disclosed which may be automatically or controllably actuated.

  • Patent number: 4124085
Abstract: A power transfer mechanism incorporated in a multiple path drive system comprises a transfer case disposed between a source of input torque and a pair of drive axles. Torque is transferred directly to the fixed axle and is transferred automatically to the steering axle through a double-acting overrunning clutch when required. The clutch is biased to advance toward one engaged position, but is prevented from locking by a direction-sensitive latch so long as a normal overrunning condition is present.

  • Patent number: 4089387
Abstract: An adjustable ratcheting wheel hub comprising a reversing pawl driven wheel hub, an axle containing a plurality of pin receiving apertures, a bearing cover assembly, and a hub tube. The hub tube operationally connects the axle to the pawl driver and contains a pin receiving aperture such that the hub tube slidably engages the axle and is secured to the axle by means of a locking pin through the hub tube and axle. The axle contains a plurality of pin receiving apertures and the width between the wheels is varied by selecting the pin receiving axle aperture that corresponds to the desired width.

  • Patent number: 4088210
Abstract: A coil spring clutch connects a driving hub to a driven sleeve rotatable on the hub and the sleeve drives an output or second driven member through a torque limiting clutch. The spring is readily declutched by arresting rotation of its leading end, as by interposing a stop in the path of an out-turned tang on that end, and is re-engaged by releasing the leading end. Re-engagement is characteristically abrupt and harsh, and the torque-limiting clutch in series with the spring clutch limits torque stress on the spring so that the series assembly is usable in applications which would destroy the spring clutch alone. The torque-limiting clutch may be a fully-releasable centrifugal clutch, in which case, the spring declutching mechanism may be actuated in common with or in response to application of a brake to stop the second driven member, or may be a frictionally-engaged centrifugal clutch or a spring-biased friction clutch.
