Surface Area Patents (Class 192/52.2)
  • Patent number: 7909151
Abstract: The present invention provides a lock-up clutch mechanism for a torque converter, comprising a lock-up piston and a front cover having an engagement surface capable of being engaged with the lock-up piston and in which a friction material is stuck to wither one of the lock-up piston and the front cover and in which engagement and disengagement are performed in accordance with a hydraulic pressure difference between the front cover and the lock-up piston and wherein the friction material includes a first flat friction surface disposed at an outer diameter side and a second tapered friction surface disposed at an inner diameter side and further wherein, when the lock-up piston and the front cover are slip-controlled, the first friction surface is engaged with uniform face pressure, and, when the lock-up piston and the front cover are substantially integrally joined with a great hydraulic pressure difference under slip control, maximum face pressure is generated at a border between the first friction surface and

  • Patent number: 7815027
Abstract: The present invention provides a lock-up clutch mechanism for a torque converter, comprising a lock-up piston and a front cover opposed to the lock-up piston and wherein a friction material having a friction surface is secured to one of the lock-up piston and the front cover, and the friction surface includes an outer peripheral friction surface which is engaged at an initial stage of engagement between the lock-up piston and the front cover and an inner peripheral friction surface which is engaged upon tightening, and the outer peripheral friction surface has a taper with respect to the inner peripheral friction surface, and the inner peripheral friction surface and the outer peripheral friction surface are subjected to a cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 7007881
Abstract: A fishing reel has a spool with a spindle and the spindle has a retaining portion to be engaged and disengaged with a slot of a gear rod. The gear rod is provided with two cut faces. While the spool is rotating in high speed, the retaining portion is attached on the cut faces first, and then the retaining portion is totally engaged with the slot after the spool rotates continuously to a predetermined angle. As a result, the spool can be stopped successfully while the spool is rotating in high speed and no damage is occurred between the spindle and the gear rod.

  • Patent number: 6790153
Abstract: An over-running clutch assembly comprises an outer race having a cylindrical inner surface and an inner race having a cammed outer surface coaxial with the cylindrical inner surface and defining a gap therebetween and a roller clutch disposed within the gap; a biasing element biases the roller clutch to a disengaged position; and an actuator selectively overcomes the biasing element to engage the roller clutch and lock the inner and outer races to prevent relative rotation therebetween. The actuation disk and the case end includes a first portion adapted to provide initial axial surface to surface contact between the actuation disk and the case end when the actuation disk contacts the case end and a second portion adapted to provide an surface to surface contact only after deflection of the actuation disk under the force of the actuator, thereby providing a spring back response when the actuator is de-energized.

  • Patent number: 6702081
Abstract: A multi-mode torque-transmitting assembly includes a plate-supporting element having an axis, and a plate connected to the plate-supporting element such that the plate is axially movable with respect to the plate-supporting element between a first position and a second position in response to applied axial forces. Furthermore, the assembly includes a movement-inhibiting member in sufficient cooperation with the plate for selectively inhibiting axial movement of the plate. The movement-inhibiting member inhibits movement of the plate from the first position in response to a first axial force, and allows movement of the plate toward the second position in response to a second axial force greater than the first axial force, such that the assembly is operable in more than one mode.
