Abstract: A band brake assembly includes a housing which carries a rotatable member and a band with a friction lining substantially surrounding the rotatable member. A parking brake lever is connected to a parking brake actuator and also to a plurality of links which are connected to respective ends of the band. The parking brake lever engages the housing and pivots relative to the housing to move the links and separate the band ends and contract the band in response to the movement of the parking brake actuator. A pivotal connection joins the links to each other and to the parking brake lever.
Abstract: The disc brake comprises a stack of reaction discs interspersed between a stack of friction discs all mounted within a housing. Brake actuation is provided by either hydraulically or manually rotating an actuating plate which, through a roller/ramp structure, moves a piston structure, causing braking engagement of the reaction discs and friction discs.

Abstract: A service brake actuating assembly is effective to bring friction material into contact with the opposite sides of a rotating disc by urging such elements in an axial direction toward a reaction wall. A compact parking and emergency brake actuating assembly extends through the wall and is alternately effective to also clampingly engage the disc by urging such elements in the opposite axial direction.
Abstract: A disc brake assembly for a vehicle comprises a first inboard and a second outboard rotatable disc which are both relatively fixed and spaced axially. Superimposed friction pads for engagement with opposite faces of the discs are guided in a common drag-taking member which takes the drag on the pads when the brake is applied. A mechanical expander mechanism is housed between and acts directly upon the oppositely directed inner friction pads for engagement with the adjacent faces of the discs to apply the said oppositely directed pads to the discs, and a clamp assembly extending over the peripheral edge of both discs comprises coupled beams. The clamp assembly incorporates an actuator acting between one of the beams and one of the remaining friction pads to apply that friction pad to the inboard face of the inboard disc, and the other beam acting on the other remaining pad to apply thereto a reaction force in turn to apply that pad to the outboard face of the outboard disc.
Abstract: Pneumatic actuation of an over-center clutch by a main control valve and fluid motor in the direction to engage the clutch is prevented by one or more safety lockout control valves each diverting the pneumatic pressure fluid from the main control valve to actuate the fluid motor in the direction of clutch disengagement while connecting the main control valve to drain. A single operative fluid pressure is employed.
Abstract: In a disc brake in which the brake applying mechanism is actuated by movement of a first pull rod, the hydraulic actuator which effects movement of the pull rod comprises an assembly of piston and cylinder members of which one is rigidly fixed with respect to a housing and the other is movable relative thereto and acts on the first pull rod. A second pull rod is coupled to the first pull rod and is used for parking or emergency braking.
Abstract: An improved clutch is described for use in a smoke and fire protection system comprising a pulley which in the normal operating position is engaged by a torque transmitting means so that the pulley may be controlled by an associated drive mechanism such as a stall motor or break motor. Either upon receipt of a signal from a remote source or upon an increase in the ambient temperature surrounding the apparatus, such as might occur during a fire, a heat responsive means disengages the pulley from the torque transmitting means thereby allowing the pulley to freely rotate about its axis to deploy its associated fire protection equipment. In the preferred embodiment, one or more bimetallic links of either "straight" or serpentine configurations are employed to move the pulley axially along its axis of rotation, thereby disengaging the pulley from an adjacent associated drive plate.
Abstract: In an actuator assembly for a vehicle brake a follower member normally operated by a wedge to apply a brake comprises a pair of hydraulic pistons working in a common bore in a housing, and the housing is provided with a supply port communicating with a pressure space defined between the adjacent ends of the pistons which abut when the wedge is displaced, and with an abutment face with which the innermost piston is engageable when the wedge is in its retracted position and the pressure space is pressurized.
Abstract: A quick closing of a friction clutch for motor vehicles is provided by an arrangement where means acting in the same direction required for maintaining the clutch in the disengaged position are used to further close the clutch.

Abstract: The brake, including a brake housing, is characterized by a housing having an inwardly extending flange forming a pressure chamber with an annular piston slidably positioned in the brake housing, and the annular piston and a secondary piston are operatively associated with opposed sides of the inwardly extending flange to form pressure chambers therewith for individual actions in the brake. Spring means operatively engage the secondary piston for moving the same into operative pressure braking position for fail safe braking operation. Air pressure is supplied to the two pressure chambers or cylinders for controlling brake release and braking action.
