The bore is provided with substantially rigid bearing bosses disposed at the axial extremities of generatrices of the bore and having inclined leading edges. In operation they deflect the dirt or grime that may be present on the guide member into passages circumferentially between bearing bosses and then on to a cavity or recess in the bore. Preferably the pairs of bearing bosses are interconnected by axial ribs. The axial ribs in turn delimit grooves which make up the dirt and grime collecting recess or cavity. The bearing means is formed for movement in a direction perpendicular to the rotational axis of the fly-wheel of the clutch. A plastic deformation member of visco-elasticity is disposed between the bearing means and the bearing support means. The plastic deformation member is deformed by the motion of the bearing means perpendicular to the rotational axis which results from a centripetal force acting on the bearing means during clutch release when there is an eccentricity between the rotational axis of the flywheel and the center line of the bearing means, thus permitting movement of the bearing means to its aligned position, so that the plastic deformation member is plastically deformed into the aligned position and holds the bearing means at that position.

A throttle shaft assembly disengages from a throttle gear by pulling out the shaft while in the neutral position. Upon actuation of a throttle lever controlling a throttle valve, a selector valve is first actuated to operatively connect one or the other of the ahead or astern clutches to the control. Further movement of the throttle lever causes a relay valve to supply air at a pressure proportional to the throttle position to a main control valve which passes such air pressure to the selected clutch until a first control pressure is reached. Thereafter, air from the supply is supplied at a programmed rate to the selected clutch to continue inflation of the clutch until a second control pressure is reached whereupon a boost valve is actuated to connect full supply air pressure to the selected clutch. A governor control valve also receives the air output of the relay valve proportional to throttle position.

  • Patent number: 4111290
Abstract: There is disclosed a thrust bearing assembly for use as a clutch throw-out bearing which assembly includes novel spring clip means for maintaining attachment of the bearing assembly with the clutch release arms or forks. The bearing assembly includes a bearing arrangement or unit and a carrier member having a pair of generally co-planar, radially directed flanges which extend transversely of the axis of the bearing arrangement. A pair of spring clips is provided for attaching the bearing assembly to the two arms of a clutch release fork, one of the spring clips being attached to each of the flanges of the carrier member. Each spring clip comprises an eye portion for pivotal attachment of the clip by a rivet or other suitable holding member to one of the flanges; a loop portion joined to the eye portion for providing spring tension; and a transverse portion for overlying the fork arms to maintain attachment.

  • Patent number: 4109773
Abstract: A release bearing assembly for a vehicle clutch comprising inner and outer relatively slidable sleeves located around the gearbox shaft. The inner sleeve is coupled to the clutch operating lever and the outer sleeve to the release fork of the clutch. The outer sleeve is in a predetermined position when the clutch is engaged and is moved axially away from that position when the clutch is released. An annular member threadably engages the exterior of the inner sleeve and abutment means act on the annular member during clutch release so that the two sleeves move together. Clamping means hold the annular member against rotation during clutch release. Release means release the clamping means when the clutch is re-engaged so that the annular member can rotate about the inner sleeve to allow the inner sleeve to move axially relative to the outer sleeve when it is at the predetermined position to compensate for any wear of the clutch.
