Including Bearing Means Patents (Class 198/672)
  • Patent number: 4300333
Abstract: The cross auger of a corn head for a combine is made up of two independent identical but opposite-hand auger sections, each separately driven and with their inner ends sharing a common central suspension member. The inner end of each section includes a bearing plate which abuts its respective side of the suspension member and engages a pair of support ledges for support and location. A single fastener locks the two auger sections in position. A common central annular shield axially overlaps the inner ends of the tubes of both auger sections. An upper portion of the shield is easily removable to permit the inner end of either auger section to be lifted out of engagement with the support hanger without disturbing the remaining auger section.

  • Patent number: 4256453
Abstract: In a calciner of the type having a screw conveyor for advancing material to and through a calcining reaction zone, and wherein the screw conveyor comprises an internally cooled support shaft which is provided within an outer screw flight shaft, an improvement comprising means for controlling the bending stress between the inner and outer shafts is provided. Further, means are also provided for allowing axial movement of one of the shafts relative to the other. The bending stress ranges between the inner and outer shafts are controlled by means of a plurality of bearing members which extend in a generally radial direction with respect to the shafts and which extend between the shafts. The bending stress range is also controlled by the axial position of the bearing members along the shafts. Axial movement of one shaft relative to the other is permitted by the provision of bearing cages around the inner shaft with axial slots formed in the cage.

  • Patent number: 4220242
Abstract: A screw conveyor for feeding solid granular material including a rotary shaft with a screw blade, a drum surrounding the screw blade and concentric with it, and a bearing supporting the shaft for rotation with respect to the drum at an intermediate axial position of the shaft. The screw blade is discontinued at the bearing, having two end portions spaced apart a distance greater than the axial length of the bearing along the shaft. Arms connect the bearing to the drum for applying an axial force to the material being fed past the discontinuity in the screw blade upon relative rotation between the screw blade and the drum. The drum and shaft are normally rotated in different directions. The arm makes a positive angle of about 15.degree. to 50.degree.

  • Patent number: 4217980
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved hanger bearing construction for auger conveyors and is directed more particularly to a sealed hanger bearing having improved service life. The device is characterized by the provision of frictionally driven wiper means which rotate with the shaft and prevent the ingress of contaminants into the interior of the bearing structure with consequent premature compromise of the bearing.

  • Patent number: 4109966
Abstract: Apparatus for conveying solid particulate material including a casing having bore therethrough and an inlet for material to be conveyed and an outlet. A screw impeller is rotatably mounted in the casing by front and rear bearings with the rear bearing being near the inlet. The outlet is intermediate the inlet and the forward bearing. A discharge chamber is flow connected immediately adjacent the casing outlet. Nozzles for supplying gas under pressure are provided in the discharge chamber for discharging material from the discharge chamber into and through a pneumatic conveying line. The screw impeller includes a feed screw section which terminates adjacent the casing outlet and a reversing section with reverse flights between the forward bearing and the casing outlet to prevent material from entering the forward bearing. A restriction plate may be placed in the casing outlet to reduce the size of the outlet opening to less than the bore through the casing.

  • Patent number: 4077508
Abstract: An enclosed hanger bearing suitable for use under severe operating conditions is disclosed. The bearing is completely sealed to prevent the entry of abrasive materials. The bearing has an adaptor plate for engaging augers which are supported by the bearing from an overhead support. A combination of felt and magnetic strip seals are employed to prevent entry of abrasive into the bearing which is permanently lubricated.
