  • Patent number: 9670001
Abstract: An automated handling line guide rail assembly is provided for use on an automated handling line that is adjustable to define a path of varying width. The assembly comprises a segmented guide rail, with segments that define a generally arcuate perimeter of the path, the perimeter being positioned at a radius from a central axis. An actuator member is rotatable about the central axis and is arranged to extend at a substantially constant radius from the central axis. Rotation of the actuator member causes substantially radial movement of the segments thereby allowing the segments to define the perimeter at a plurality of different radii. The segments are positioned and have a width such that adjacent segments overlap each other. Their overlapping portions move circumferentially relative to each other when the segments move radially such that the extent of overlap of adjacent segments varies with the radial position of the segments.

Abstract: A system and method for adjusting the LED current of an optical sensor that does not decrease the effectiveness of the optical sensor or the length of its operating life, or significantly increase the cost due to hardware requirements. The LED current of an optical sensor is adjusted using a high frequency pulse-width modulated signal generated from a microcontroller. Based on feedback provided by the photo-detector, the duty cycle of the signal can be adjusted by the microcontroller. The signal passes through a low pass filter which averages the modulated signal into a DC voltage, which is then used to control a current amplifier circuit that provides current to the LED of the optical sensor. This adjustability enables the system to compensate for variations in sensor LED's and the LED brightness reduction to due aging and/or build-up of contaminants on the photo-detector and/or LED.

Abstract: The secure baggage claim apparatus and method centers on a dynamic merge conveyor unit that feeds into a standard baggage claim unit. The dynamic merge actively measures every space and every bag. Once the merge determines sufficient spacing for an individual bag, the dynamic merge will accelerate a bag into the open space on the baggage claim unit. Such dynamic merging greatly improves the throughput and capacity of baggage drop off and delivery. The entire baggage claim unit resides within the passenger sector of baggage claim. Current configurations allow bags to freely circulate between the secure and non-secure side of the baggage claim area. With the present invention, bags are prevented from circulating back and forth from the secure side to the non-secure side, which prevents an individual on the non-secure public side from placing a bag on a baggage claim unit where it will then be circulated and unscreened into the secure side for a baggage handler to retrieve such bag.

Abstract: Provided are a medication supporting apparatus and method. In the medication supporting apparatus, a storage section stores a strip of dosage bags that are continuously connected. A carrier section carries the dosage bag strip in the storage section. A sensor section generates a detection signal detecting a position of the dosage bag strip on the carrier section. A circuit section determines the position of the dosage bag strip according to the detection signal of the sensor section, and controls the carrier section. The dosage bag strip packed in continuous dosage bags is recognized in a unit of one dosage bag, is adjusted to a start position thereof, and is dispensed by a size of one dosage bag, so that the dosage bag strip can be accurately dispensed.

  • Patent number: 7740128
Abstract: A self-synchronizing system and method for conveyor belt sensor operation is disclosed based on the address of an RFID tag in the belt and the location of that tag in the system memory. A moving conveyor belt system has a plurality of sensors spaced along the belt and a sensor reader for detecting and identifying the presence of a sensor passing by the sensor reader. The belt further includes a plurality of identification tags spaced along the belt and a tag reader for detecting and identifying the presence of a tag passing by the tag reader. Associated time and distance target values are acquired from a calibration table for a next sensor (S1) based upon a detected and identified functional tag. Time and distance counters are initiated. The conveyor belt may be stopped in the event that the next sensor (S1) is not detected before the time and distance target values are exceeded.

Abstract: A conveyor system for processing items on which radio frequency identification tags are disposed includes a frame and a conveyor that is disposed moveably on the frame and that conveys items through a path of travel, each item having at least one respective radio frequency identification tag disposed thereon. An antenna is disposed on the frame with respect to the path of travel so that the antenna radiates radio frequency signals into a first area through which the items pass. The antenna comprises a substrate and a plurality of patch elements disposed on the substrate in respective positions that are sequential with respect to a direction transverse to the path of travel. An electric current at each patch element drives radiation of the radio frequency signals and defines a rotating electric current pattern. Respective rotational directions of the electric current pattern at two patch elements are opposite to each other.
