  • Patent number: 10745205
Abstract: A drive member for a cage of a spiral conveyor, the drive member comprising a cage-bar and an engagement member. The cage-bar comprises a ridge extending along a longitudinal axis of the cage-bar, the ridge being adapted to mate with an inner side of a conveyor belt. The cage-bar has a conical shape and a driving ridge in a single part with coating to protect against wear. At the belt entrance of the spiral conveyor, the sanitary monopiece direct drive cage-bar have an UHMW (Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight) polyethylene bloc overlapped to help engagement of the belt as specified by manufacturer of the belt. The custom bended shape of the cage-bar allows using several different conical angles to reduce belt tension. The monopiece cage-bar also allows applications where great temperature changes are required because the thermal dilatation will not causes gap in the driving ridge.

  • Patent number: 9145259
Abstract: A center column drive for a spiral conveyor is used to rotate a drive tower to move a conveyor belt in a helical pattern. The drive tower is driven by the center column drive to cause rotation about a vertical axis. The center column drive includes a base having a platform and a plurality of support legs that support the platform. The center column drive also includes a slew ring that is secured to the platform at one end and to a center column of the drive tower and a second end. Rotation of an electric gear motor causes rotation of a portion of the slew ring, which, in turn, rotates the drive tower.

Abstract: A spiral conveyor has a conveying device that is moved along a helically running spiral region. The conveying device is supported along the spiral region on the radially loaded side of the conveying device. The support is realized by multiple individual deflecting devices that lie along the radially loaded side of the conveying device. Each said deflecting device has a central body including a roller body that surrounds the central body, the roller body including a plurality of rollers. The rollers are rolled on a roller track of the central body in an annular segment of a helically running supporting region of the spiral conveyor.

  • Patent number: 9079719
Abstract: Overlapping cage-bar caps in a spiral belt conveyor. The cage bars of a spiral-conveyor cage are covered along the majority of their length by a main cage-bar cap fastened to the cage bar at the exit of the belt from the spiral. At the belt's entrance to the spiral, an entrance cage-bar cap overlaps a portion of the main cage-bar cap and the cage bar. The overlap is great enough to prevent a gap from forming along the length of the cage bar between the main cage-bar cap and the entrance cage-bar cap.

Abstract: A spiral conveyor for positively driving a hinged, modular conveyor belt along a helical path. The spiral conveyor includes a rotating cylindrical tower with parallel drive members extending from the bottom to the top of the tower on its periphery. Each drive member includes an outwardly protruding ridge extending from the bottom to the top of the tower for engaging the inside edges of the belt. In one version, the ridges at the entrance end of the spiral are movable to provide a gradually decreasing spacing between consecutive ridges as the belt enters the spiral. In another version, alignment elements at the entrance end align belt-edge structure with the tip ends of associated ridges to help engagement. In another version, the ridges at a discharge end of the tower are retractable between an extended position driving the belt and a retracted position.

Abstract: An improved take-up assembly used on spiral conveyor belt with interconnecting links. The take-up assembly is designed to prevent damage to the belt due to obstructions, excessive tension or excessive buckling. The take-up assembly includes a pivoting swing arm assembly coupled to an obstruction sensor that automatically shuts-off the drive motor used to move the conveyor belt when an obstruction is detected upstream from the take-up assembly. A second obstruction sensor can be used on the upper portion of the take-up assembly to detect obstructions. Also disclosed is a buckling arm located above and longitudinally aligned with the belt and pivotally attached to the distal end of the lower swing arm assembly. The swing arm is designed to pivot beyond the position where the first obstruction sensor is activated so that the amount of belt that continues to be drawn into the stack as the stack coasts to a stop.

  • Patent number: 8857608
Abstract: A link member having a replaceable wear component and a conveyor belt comprising a link member having a replaceable wear component are described. One aspect of the present invention provides a sacrificial or replaceable wear component that is attached to a conveyor belt. The conveyor belt can be any type of conveyor belt, such as a grid-type or flat-wire conveyor belt. The wear component is attached by mechanical or other means to allow its removal after a certain wear limit has been achieved. A new component can be installed to bring the conveyor belt to nearly new condition. This will extend belt life because only the wear component needs to be replaced, rather than the entire belt.
