  • Patent number: 4186831
Abstract: The invention is a unique connector for joining the juxtaposed ends of the shafts of two adjacent conveyor idler rolls. The shaft ends are provided with diametrically extending pivots. The connecting link comprises a continuous or endless loop of relatively rigid high strength material folded over to form two pairs of spaced but parallel gudgeons, each pair of gudgeons forming a clevis. One clevis loopingly or pivotably engages the pivots attached to one idler shaft, and the other clevis similarly engages the perpendicularly aligned pivots attached to the other shaft. In one embodiment, a trunnion nut having colinearly extending pivot stubs and a threaded central opening, is screwed onto the end of each shaft. Optionally, a flexible grease tube can be passed from one shaft end through the connector to the other shaft end to provide flow-through lubrication capability.

  • Patent number: 4134488
Abstract: A fastening device is disclosed for supporting a catenary troughing roll embly for a conveyor belt mounted on a fixed support frame. The fastening device includes a plate pivotally mounted intermediate of its length on the fixed support frame, the adjacent end shaft of the roll assembly is connected to one end of the plate by a connector means and the opposite end of the plate is locked in one position by a locking means mounted on the fixed frame. The locking means, when released from the plate, permits the plate to rotate and lower the roll assembly from contact with the conveyor belt. Means are provided to accommodate conveyor belts of various widths within the space between the fixed frames and to vary the angle of the troughing roll assembly.

  • Patent number: 4120535
Abstract: A mining machine that may be used in place of an auger miner that is much more energy efficient in transporting mined material from the cutting site to the mouth of the mine. The machine includes a non-rotatable body member with stabilizers, at least one rotatable pilot cutting head mounted in front of the body member and a shaft operatively connected to the cutting head for rotation thereof, and a conveyor assembly mounted behind the pilot head in operative association with the body member. The conveyor assembly includes a scoop disposed posteriorly of the cutting head and having a bottom portion abutting the floor and extending posteriorly therefrom at an angle of about 14.degree. or less, and having side members that funnel toward each other.

  • Patent number: 4094401
Abstract: Each end of a catenary carrier for an endless conveyor belt is supported by a quick release mechanism operable to drop the catenary rollers out of operation. The quick release mechanism includes a link which has an elongated slot wth an enlarged annular end portion. Supports at opposite ends of the catenary carrier carry a rotatable support pin for the link which has a head portion and a neck portion. The neck portion is annular except for two flats formed on radially opposite sides thereof. When the neck of the pin is disposed in the annular end portion of the slot, the link will be locked against movement relative to the pin in the direction toward the carrier if the flats are transverse to the slot. When the support pin is rotated 90.degree. to present the narrow width of the neck in alignment with the slot, the weight of the carrier will cause the link to move relative to the pin whereby the neck of the pin will be disposed in the opposite end of the slot from said annular portion.

  • Patent number: 4043447
Abstract: A plurality of troughing rolls, that are suspended in a chain-like manner between opposite side frame members of a conveyor, support a conveyor belt so that the transverse cross-section of the belt defines a trough. The troughing rolls that are located adjacent each side of the conveyor belt are axially inclined in opposite directions. At least one arm is pivotally mounted on the frame and attached to the adjacent end of an inclined troughing roll. A locking pin is provided for retaining the arm in a first position where the troughing rolls support the conveyor belt. The locking pin can be readily moved to release the arm for pivoting to a second position where the troughing rolls are clear of the belt. The arm is mounted to pivot in a plane that is generally parallel to the adjacent inclined side edge of the belt. This plane is substantially the same plane in which extends the line of force that is applied to the arm by the troughing rolls in a belt supporting position.
