Patent number: 8188384Abstract: One problem with weighing conveyors is that the tension of the conveyor belt, needed to allow the belt to be driven, inadvertently reduces the degree of sagging of the belt caused by the mass of the product on the belt, which affects weighing accuracy, as this pre-tensioning of the belt inadvertently supports some of the weight of the product being transported, and this tension supported fraction of the weight cannot be sensed by the load cell supporting the middle section of the belt. In a preferred embodiment, a flexible transition area is formed in-between the outer edges of the belt and the middle, product transport area, wherein the transition area comprises openings that serve to weaken the belt locally, such that a pre-tensioning of the middle part of the conveyor belt is reduced; this allows the middle part of the conveyor belt to hang substantially slack even as the outer edges of the conveyor belt are driven.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2009Date of Patent: May 29, 2012Assignee: Rademaker B.V.Inventor: Arie Hendrik Verhaar

The layers each contribute their own function to the operation of the belt to provide superior performance.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 27, 2009Publication date: June 3, 2010Inventors: Matthias Schmitt, Klaus Hermann, Kjell Anders Karlsson

Publication number: 20100122893Abstract: The present invention provides a conveyor belt rip detection system with belts having rip detection inserts that can be more easily integrated into conveyor belts at low cost. These rip detection inserts do not adversely affect the durability of the conveyor belt and can be easily replaced in the event of belt damage. This rip detection system also provides a highly reliable early image of belt damage that can facilitate quick repair before extensive belt damage occurs.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 2009Publication date: May 20, 2010Applicant: Veyance Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Jack Bruce Wallace

Patent number: 7681717Abstract: An endless conveyor belt (10) comprises a flat belt portion (12) with strips (20) of teeth (28) attached to one side of the flat belt, near the side edges (26) of the flat belt. In another embodiment, the side edges of the strips are attached to the side edges of the flat belt. In either embodiment, the strips are first attached to the flat belt, and then machined to form a plurality of teeth on each strip. The strips can be of a different material than the flat belt. The conveyor belt can be employed with conveyors having small radius pulleys (54) and nose bars (58).Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2007Date of Patent: March 23, 2010Assignee: Thermodrive LLCInventor: Michael DeGroot

Patent number: 7648021Abstract: A method of applying a coating to a conveyor belt is provided. A first layer of adhesive is applied to a first surface of the conveyor belt and allowed to cure. One or more subsequent layers of adhesive are applied to the first layer of adhesive; a final layer of the one or more subsequent layers is allowed to become tacky. In some embodiments the adhesive is a two-part cement. In particular embodiments, the two-part cement includes an isocyanate part and a curable rubber part. A layer of two-part polyurethane/polyurea is applied to the tacky layer of adhesive. The coating process may be performed on conveyor belts having worn or damaged portions in an effort to repair the conveyor belts.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2008Date of Patent: January 19, 2010Assignee: Garlock Rubber TechnologiesInventor: Joel Donnenwirth
