  • Patent number: 4995116
Abstract: A privacy covering for breast feeding an infant in public places is provided in a simple, light weight nursing cape. The nursing cape is designed to be easily draped over and cover the shoulders of a nursing mother with her neck passed through a central neck opening and her head above the cape shoulders. The cape is structured with a one-piece back and an opening in the front producing two front panels. The front opening has releasable fasteners and the opening can be closed with the nursing cape over and protecting the mother's clothing as well as providing privacy for the nursing mother. The length of the front panels provides a covering for the feeding infant. One embodiment of the invention has two transverse openings, one on each side in the front panels, providing the mother with surveillance openings to look down at the infant without exposing herself to public view. The surveillance openings also provide additional ventilation for the nursing infant.

  • Patent number: 4964172
Abstract: A nursing blanket for use by a nursing mother to shield her breast from public view while feeding her infant. The blanket comprises a square of woven cloth with an elastic, garter-like loop affixed near one corner of the cloth. In use, the mother inserts her arm through the loop and pulls the loop up over the point of the shoulder thereby disposing the cloth down the length of the arm. She then cradles the infant in same arm and drapes a portion of the cloth over most of her chest including her breast and over the infant's head and upper body. She can then reach under the cloth to bare her breast and offer it to the infant. In this way she effectively screens her breast from view and is able to discretely nurse in public.

  • Patent number: 4712251
Abstract: A nursing mother's garment comprised of a shoulder apparatus known as a shoulder bib and an attachable blanket-type draping known hereafter as a blanket, which provides concealment of the wearer's upper body and the baby's head and upper body, while providing maximum fresh air flow to the baby and viewing of the nursing process by the mother only. For nursing, the shoulder bib is placed on the wearer's shoulder with the blanket attached to it by a plurality of fasteners. The blanket attaches to the lower edge of the front portion of the shoulder bib and extends from directly above the wearer's breast downwardly past the wearer's waistline and laterally from beyond the wearer's arm nearest the shoulder bib across the wearer's breast beyond her mid-chest. • Patent number: 4663782
Abstract: Breast feeding blouses are designed to provide minimum exposure of a wearer's breast during feeding. In one form of the invention, a blouse has a pair of pocket size openings for the wearer's breasts, and flaps for covering the openings. Each flap is secured along a top portion thereof to the garment above the respective opening for upward raising of the flap to uncover the opening only to the extent necessary for an infant to obtain access to the wearer's nipple. Another form of breast feeding garment has a pair of substantially horizontal slits for providing access to the wearer's breasts for feeding and a downwardly depending horizontal pleat for covering the slits and providing access thereto by lifting portions of the pleat. The flaps or pleat, as the case may be, may have loop and pile-type friction fastener strips for securing same to the garment in a down position.

  • Patent number: 4660227
Abstract: A woman's nursing-wear garment--a dress, blouse, or nightgown--has horizonta, vertical, or diagonal openings of sufficient dimension to expose the nipple at either breast. These openings in the respective garment, specifically pertaining to the upper front portion, are of an overlap design with the fabric on one side extending over the fabric on the opposite side. This configuration leaves an opening in the form of a slit that can be readily enlarged by separation of the overlapped fabric layers at the area of the breast and nipple, to provide access for nursing. The overlap design may but need not incorporate zippers, buttons, or hook-and-loop-type fasteners. A large additional panel, attached to the respective garment at the shoulder, of coordinated design and color covers the overlap portion of the garment down to the area well below the breasts. It, in turn, provides the necessary privacy while nursing the baby.

  • Patent number: 4648404
Abstract: A functionally coordinated nursing slip and nursing bra enable a working mother to breast feed her infant without having to make any indecorous motions that attract unwanted attention, in order to adjust her nursing undergarments. This is accomplished without affecting the stylishness, strap adjustability, or concealment otherwise provided by the slip. Similarly, the functionality of the nursing bra is not reduced. The coordination arrangement allows the opened slip to be fully supported by the nursing bra. The opened slip parts are retained handily by the coordinated bra so that reclosure is easily done. Thus all need for the mother to seek total privacy in nursing is eliminated, and she can nurse around other persons with minimal embarassment.

  • Patent number: 4446572
Abstract: The nursing dress includes an outer dress portion covering the torso of a woman and having a given color and design. An under dress portion, in turn, covers the torso from the inside upper front margin of the outer dress portion and extends downwardly over the top areas of the breasts to within a short distance of the nipples and is of the same color and design as the outer dress portion. This under dress portion may be detachably secured to the inside of the outer dress portion at the shoulders and side arm areas. An exposing arrangement such as zippers or buttons on the front of the outer dress portion permits an area of the outer dress portion to be removed from in front of the torso to expose the under dress portion and an uncovered area of a breast for nursing a child. Since the under dress portion has the same color and design as the outer dress portion, it blends in with the remaining front of the outer dress portion to camouflage the fact that an area of the outer dress portion has been removed.
