Patent number: 5491841Abstract: A cap with an attached flexible film that protects eyes from sunlight. The film, which serves as sunglass lenses, is attached to the base portion at the front of the cap either by stitches or a VELCRO.TM. fastener. The film can be flipped up inside the cap out of sight when not needed. When the film is in its down position, it can be adjusted for fit by sliding upward or downward as required to conform to height of one's nose bridge.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1994Date of Patent: February 20, 1996Inventor: Robert J. Patent number: 5491842Abstract: An adjustable eyeglass retainer headpiece (10) has a circumferential slit (20) in a cap (12) thereof spaced a substantial distance above a lower edge (16a ) of the cap but below an attachment area (22) of a proximal end portion(30) of an eyeglass retainer member (14). The retainer member (14) extends from the attachment area through the slit to an interior surface (24) of the cap and from there to a distal end portion (32) which extends below the lower edge of the cap for passing about a nose bridge (52) of eyeglasses (50). A lower-edge margin (26) of the cap extending between the lower edge and the slit is substantially unattached to the retainer member so that it can be folded upwardly to adjust the size of the cap.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1994Date of Patent: February 20, 1996Inventor: Glenda Braswell-Moore

Patent number: 5487191Abstract: A cap or hat having a visor for permitting a flow of air through the visor, thereby precluding unintentional removal of the cap by wind currents. The inventive device includes a cap having a visor;extending outwardly therefrom, with the visor having a semi-circular aperture extending therethrough. A venting assembly extends across the visor aperture and is secured to forward and lateral edges of the visor aperture only, thereby allowing a trailing edge of the venting assembly to be fluidly biased out of the plane of the visor such that a pressure differential across the visor is reduced. The device may take the form of an integrally molded vent having a predetermined shape and fixedly secured to the visor. In addition, mounting plates facilitating the retro-fitting of existing caps are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1994Date of Patent: January 30, 1996Inventor: Robert L. Ridley

Patent number: 5473778Abstract: A sunglass system comprises a pocket releasably attached to the interior of a crown of a cap so as to present an access opening adjacent the cap visor. Upon cap positioning on the head of a user, a lens, positioned within the pocket, is user slidable between a first position above the eyes of the user and a second position below the cap visor and adjacent the eyes of the wearer. The lens is maintained at its second position by laterally extending tabs engaging the lower portion of the pocket and at its first position within the pocket by a releasable friction fit among the pocket, lens and cap crown.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1993Date of Patent: December 12, 1995Assignee: John E. Patent number: 5471684Abstract: A sports hat construction includes a head covering portion having a lower opening defining a periphery. A brim portion is provided detachably secured to the head covering portion. An elongate band or strip, in the form of a male connector, is attached to the lower periphery of the head covering portion, while a female mating connector is secured to the brim. The male and female connectors are configurated and dimensioned to detachably engage each other in slidable relationship so that the brim can be slidably moved along the longitudinal length of the periphery of the cap. Advantageously, the head covering portion is selectively removable to permit the brim to continue to serve as a sun visor when the head covering portion is removed.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1993Date of Patent: December 5, 1995Assignee: Rally Cap, Inc.Inventor: Rudy J. Patent number: 5461727Abstract: A bouffant headpiece (10) includes a loose bouffant-type cap (12) having an elastic strand (16) attached to, and extending about, a lower edge (17) thereof for contracting the lower edge of the cap onto a wearer's head. The headpiece also includes a head-band strap (50) having two free ends (52, 54) attached to the lower edge of the cap but only at a front portion (18) thereof for being wrapped about the wearer's head, when the cap is on the wearer's head, and being fastened together behind wearer's head to stabilize the position of the lower edge of the front portion of the loose cap. An elongated, flexible, eyeglass retainer member (14) having a proximal end portion (30) attached to the front portion of the cap and a distal end portion (32) for extending below the cap is for passing about a bridge of eyeglasses, doubling back on itself, and fastening to itself.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1994Date of Patent: October 31, 1995Inventor: Glenda M.
