Patent number: 4228547Abstract: This disclosure has to do with the stiffening of clothing components, such as collars, cuffs, etc. which, in the past, has been effected by means of separately formed stiffening elements. In lieu of providing a separately formed stiffening element which must be separately incorporated within the clothing part, it is proposed to provide a component of the clothing part with a coating of thermoplastics material which is applied in a preselected pattern to provide the desired stiffness. This eliminates the necessity of separately formed elements which, in turn, eliminates the necessity of maintaining a supply of such elements and the separate incorporation thereof in a clothing part.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1979Date of Patent: October 21, 1980Inventor: Paul G. Patent number: 4077066Abstract: The garment parts hereof, namely the garment placket, collar and cuffs, have a smooth, neat appearance, obviating the need even for touch-up ironing, and thus are particularly suitable for wash-and-wear promotion. Moreover, the fabric for these parts, although not possessing "recoverable" stretch and thus heretofore unsuitable for my prior patented sewing technique for achieving pucker-free seams (U.S. Pat. No. 3,453,662), are now adapted to be sewn so as to provide the patented result noted. To a significant extent, this desired wash-and-wear performance is achieved by an artificially created "recoverable" stretch in the lining fabric.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1977Date of Patent: March 7, 1978Inventor: George Weiss
