  • Patent number: 5298001
Abstract: A strap of leather, for extending along the palm of a user's hand, has a finger end and a wrist end, with the wrist end anchored to a pad secured around the wrist by a belt and held in place by hook and loop materials. The finger end of the strap has a dowel extending sideways at approximately the finger tip position. Beyond the dowel are a couple of holes through which the two middle fingers extend during use, with the distal end of the strap folded back over the dowel and the fingers extending through the holes. An elastic strip is attached to the palm face of the finger end of the strap and forms a pair of loops through which the fingers extend during use. The strip is attached to the finger end distally of the dowel and finger holes so that the fingers pass through the loops prior to being inserted in the holes.

  • Patent number: 4750339
Abstract: A knitted article such as a glove having a wrist cuff includes an edge binding which is activatable by the application of heat thereto to prevent unraveling of the cuff edge. The bound edge is defined by first and second yarn ends which are knitted together, wherein the first yarn includes a heat activatable, thermoplastic outer covering and the second yarn is defined by a nonthermoplastic, elastic material. The first and second yarns are knitted in a manner to form crossover points therebetween. The edge binding is subjected to heat in order to melt the thermoplastic outer covering of the first yarn, thereby joining the first and second yarns at the crossover points. The articles may be formed on conventional, automatic knitting machines. • Patent number: 4464796
Abstract: A glove formed of rubber or plastics material, especially an examination or surgical glove devoid of a roll-down preventing beaded edge and containing a structured surface at the cuff region. The structured surface is formed at the outer side or surface of the glove by non-connected raised portions, whereas the structured surface is formed at the inside or inner surface of the glove by mirror-image, non-connected recesses or depressions. • Patent number: 4388733
Abstract: A chain mesh protective glove for butchers has a semi rigid wrist guard configured to shield an area extending no more than halfway around a user's forearm nearest the wrist joint, including the front of the wrist and the base of the thumb. A flexible wristband connects the wrist guard to the glove and secures the glove around a wearer's wrist. When the glove is used in conjunction with a conventional protective sleeve, the wrist guard provides protection against knife penetration between the glove and the sleeve, without significantly impairing articulation of the user's wrist.

  • Patent number: 4371987
Abstract: An elastomeric surgical glove with an improved ring rolled cuff and a method and apparatus to produce the cuff is disclosed. The ring rolled cuff comprises alternating tightly rolled segments with loosely rolled segments. The ring rolled cuff is made by contacting the uncured glove on the glove form with a plurality of rotating wheels while the wheels are moved on the form from the wrist end of the form toward the hand end of the form. The portions of the cuff in contact with the wheels are tightly rolled, and the remaining portions are loosely rolled.

  • Patent number: 4368883
Abstract: A glove is provided with band-type connectors for releasably connecting with a weight at any of a plurality of selected locations about the outer surface of the glove to facilitate resistance exercising of muscles of the forearm, wrist, hand and/or fingers. The weight is preferably carried on a strap. Each of the band-type connectors or bands extends through a separate set of openings formed in the glove and preferably serves to encircle an adjacent portion of the wearer's hand. Each of the bands preferably loops alternatively out of and into the glove to provide at least one external loop portion which can be connected to the strap-carried weight. By this arrangement the glove may be used in a variety of palm-up, palm-down and palm-sideways attitudes with the strap-carried weight attached at any of the selected locations.

  • Patent number: 4193135
Abstract: This invention relates to a protective device adapted to protect the hand, palm and wrist of a person while one is engaging in a sporting activity, such as skateboarding or football, and can also be used to retain the hand, palm, and wrist substantially immobile after an injury. The device has a contoured, generally rectangular shape constructed of a resilient, energy-absorbent material, such as plastic foam, which is coated or covered on at least one side with a covering layer. A bendable stiffening member is interposed between the covering layer and resilient material forming a sandwich-like construction. The peripheral edges of the resilient material and the covering layer extend beyond the peripheral edges of the stiffening member. The novel construction provides a generally cylindrical protective means when the device is worn. Suitable fastening means are provided to retain the device on the wearer's hand, palm and wrist.

  • Patent number: 4183098
Abstract: A first rigid elongated plate has first and second ends, a first end being hingedly attached to a first end of a rigid link to swing freely towards and away from one side of the link within a predetermined included first arc. A second rigid elongated plate, having first and second ends, is hingedly attached to the other end of the link to swing freely towards and away from the one link side within a predetermined included second arc. A flexible envelope encloses the first and second plates and the link to retain the plates and link in end to end hinged relation. Strap members transversely extend from the envelope and are wrappable around the user's hand, wrist, and forearm to hold the envelope, plates, and link in supporting relation thereto.

  • Patent number: 4065813
Abstract: Ball player's gloves used in playing baseball, softball and similar sports are provided with an opening for insertion of the player's hand to manipulate the glove. A relatively short strap normally spans the opening to assist in holding the glove on the player's hand. The present invention provides an improvement in such gloves in which a relatively long strap is provided in place of the short strap. The long strap has one end attached to one side of the opening of the glove and a second opposite end detachably attachable to the other side of the opening. The longer strap has sufficient length so that it can be looped around the wrist of the player to secure the glove to the player so that the glove can be more readily manipulated and will not come off while it is being used.
