Patent number: 8973166Abstract: An attachment for the edge of an extending brim of a baseball type cap or visor is disclosed which is mounted on the edge of the extending brim to protect or repair the edge. The attachment easily mounts on the brim of a cap or visor and remains securely thereon. The brim is inserted into a slot through the side and along the full length of the attachment. The slot has flared edges that permit the attachment to be easily attached to the brim edge. As the edge attachment is mounted on the edge of a cap or visor the flared edges are deformed outward creating a spring force that firmly holds the edge attachment on the brim. The edge attachment may have an extension that extends over the top of a brim to provide additional space for the display of words, graphics, etc. that are larger than can be displayed on the much narrower front or top edge of the attachment.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2011Date of Patent: March 10, 2015Inventor: Kyle Engle

Patent number: 8522418Abstract: A protective helmet includes an outer shell having a generally dome-shaped section and a brim extending outwardly from the dome-shaped section. The dome-shaped section and the brim are formed from a thermoplastic material. The helmet further includes a brim support in operative connection with at least a portion of the brim. The brim support is formed from a material that is more heat resistant than the thermoplastic material. The brim support is sufficiently rigid to limit deformation of the brim upon exposure to high temperature. The brim support material can, for example, have a melting point above 500° F. A method of limiting high-temperature deformation in a helmet includes molding an outer shell of the helmet to consist essentially of thermoplastic material, the outer shell comprising a generally dome-shaped portion and a brim extending outwardly from the dome-shaped section by at least 2.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2009Date of Patent: September 3, 2013Assignee: Mine Safety Appliances CompanyInventor: F. Publication number: 20080295222Abstract: This invention is directed toward a sun hat with a stiff bill and continuous, 360-degree coverage, where the bill and brim are made from the same material and contain the same multiple, parallel line stitching pattern. The stitching pattern combined with the relatively thick fabric gives the brim substantial rigidity without the need for an insert. The inside of the head band provides a uni-directionally or bi-directionally stretchable band divided into multiple horizontal sections, with each section attached to the other section(s) with reinforcing fibers such that the head band can expand to the circumferences of different head sizes, thereby giving each “size” of the hat a wider range of suitable head sizes than is found with traditional sun hats. The lack of a need for a means of size adjustment in the back of the hat allows for the brim to cover the entire neck and ear regions.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 4, 2007Publication date: December 4, 2008Inventor: Steve E. Patent number: 7178173Abstract: The combination of a headwear piece and an attachment. The headwear piece has a crown with a circumference and a bill projecting away from the crown and extending less than fully around the circumference of the crown. The bill has a peripheral edge including a front edge portion which blends into spaced first and second side edge portions. The attachment is provided at least partially on the bill. The attachment engages the bill at the front edge portion and exerts a biasing force on the bill tending to impart a curve shape to the bill.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2005Date of Patent: February 20, 2007Assignee: American NeedleInventor: Robert Kronenberger

Patent number: 6964064Abstract: Piping for the bill of a cap and a cap so disposed with piping. The piping is formed into the bill as by attachment to cloth covers or direct attachment to a stiffener. The piping may be made if plastic and may have a logo attached or formed therein as by embossment, engraving, or the like. The piping may enhance the grip upon the hat and may increase the attractiveness and/or appeal of such a hat.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2003Date of Patent: November 15, 2005Inventor: Suen Ching Yan

Patent number: 6735782Abstract: A baseball-style cap having a freely transformable visor which includes an upper fabric portion, a lower fabric portion, and a resilient stiffener placed therebetween. The cap further includes a piped fabric portion that is located between the upper and lower fabric portions, adjacent an outer periphery of such upper and lower portions, into which a deformable material is inserted. The deformable material includes a plastic sheath defining a channel, and a metal material lying within the channel and enclosed thereby. The combination of the resilient stiffener and the deformable material allows the visor to be readily bent or folded as well as easily restored to its original configuration. The resulting cap can be produced easily, is attractive in use and can be carried in a pocket without damage to the visor.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2002Date of Patent: May 18, 2004Assignee: Dada Corp.Inventor: Boo Yl Park
