Boxing Gloves Patents (Class 2/18)
  • Patent number: 4984300
Abstract: A protective glove of flexible, resilient foam material has a rear portion partially encircling the wrist and held thereto by a releasable circumferential elastic strap and a front portion, including a knuckle covering thickened portion and a downwardly extending finger covering portion, held in place by a laterally extending palm strap. The inside surface of the finger portion includes a ladder-like member having first and second elongated laterally extending bands joined at intermediate points by three cross-member bands which define two loops through which second and third fingers pass to draw the front and rear portions together to tighten the glove when making a fist. One band is attached to the glove to form an integral part of the inner surface of the finger portion, and has ends extending beyond the cross-members. The other band is raised above the inner surface and has free floating end appendages beyond the cross-member junctures which assist in grasping and distribution of glove tightening forces.

  • Patent number: 4580296
Abstract: A suit for use in combat type sports easily secured and removable for wearing by a user's body to protect same from damage by blows which may be struck by parts of another suit. The suit includes apparatus which completely encloses a user's body and has a generally non-flexible and preferably lightweight outer armor which is padded on the inside to absorb shock during use. A helmet is securely attached to an upper body armor so that the shock of a blow to the head area of a user will transfer to the bottom of the upper body armor and thereby eliminate any damage to the head. Lower arm components enclose the lower arms of a user and include portions which are gripped by the user's hands, and hence, the ends of these components which extend past the hands will generally make contact in punching another suited opponent during use. Separate components enclose and are adapted to provide maneuverability of a user's arms, legs, feet and waist or torso.

  • Patent number: 4457023
Abstract: A boxing glove with thumb tie down has been provided which incorporates a connecting bridge which holds the thumb in essentially a closed or nested position at all times. The connecting bridge extends from the upper edge of the thumb sheath to the thumb guard location as a controlled thumb feature. The connecting bridge provides limited mobility of the thumb to prevent thumbing and eye injuries. The improved boxing glove maintains the thumb sheath in a tight position to prevent causing injuries such as gouging, yet permits the confined hand to relax at the boxer's discretion.

  • Patent number: 4432545
Abstract: A pair of sparring gloves or muffs are attached to each leg of a pair of fighting cocks over the natural spur area. The muffs incorporate a member slideably movable along the axis of the natural spur in response to blows struck substantially along this axis. A plurality of switch means are successively actuated in response to movement of the slideable member by various increments of distance, commensurate with the force of the blow. Signals are generated and transmitted to a remote location by transmitters actuated by the switches and attached to the skin at posterior areas below the tail feathers of each bird. The signals are received at the location outside the fighting pit and used to increment counters indicative of the scores of the respective birds, which are weighted according to the force of the blows struck and visually displayed to the spectators.
