Abstract: A protective cup includes a cage member and a peripheral lip. The cage member includes upper, lower, and side portions. The upper portion may include a plurality of slots. At least one slot may be oriented so that a direction defined by a largest dimension of the at least one slot extends toward one or more of the lower portion and the side portions. The cup may also include linking portions. The lip is operatively connected to the upper and lower portions. The lip may be operatively connected to the side portions or it may be distanced from the cage member at openings between the lip and side portions. If the lip is distanced from the cage member, the linking portions operatively connect the lip to the side portions to fill the openings or one or more parts of the openings. A method of manufacturing the cup is also disclosed.

Abstract: An athletic undergarment and a protective cup assembly is provided. The undergarment includes a cup pocket for holding the protective cup over the groin of the wearer. The cup includes an attachment location in a lower portion to secure a first end of a strap. The cup pocket defines a slit in a bottom portion of the cup pocket sized to allow the strap to pass therethrough. The coupling mechanism is provided having a first portion on the strap and a second portion disposed in a rear portion of the undergarment proximate to the waistband. In use, the strap extends between the legs portions so that the first portion and the second portion of the coupling mechanism can couple in a secure manner to inhibit displacement of the cup when exposed to upward forces.

The integral jock support member includes a pocket portion attached to a front portion of the short, which is configured to house a protective groin cup. At least two elongate members extend along opposing sides of the pocket portion and may intersect or meet at a crotch portion of the short such that the pocket and/or protective cup remains secured over a user's groin region during athletic or other physical activity.

The cup member has a convex outer surface to bear an external impact force, a concave inner surface to confront the groin area of a user, and a peripheral abutment edge joining the outer and inner peripheral regions and having two edge segments. The padding member includes a cup-shaped lining body which has a convex abutment surface mating with the concave inner surface entirely, left and right dampening walls which extend from the lining body to flank the edge segments, respectively, and two flanges which extend respectively from the dampening walls to contact the groin area. The flanges are configured such that they do not stand in the way of bending of the dampening walls towards the groin area when the external impact force is being transmitted through the edge segments.

It is made up of a unit for the genital which has an opening for urine passage and another unit for anal opening which allows free passage of stool. The cover for the genital is further composed of urine receiving channel and flaps to cover the said opening. The cover for anal opening has a lid which is hinged to a frame around anal opening which is in turn fastened to the back side portion of the belt. The two units are connected at the crotch. The channel, the flap and the lid, each opens and closes on its own by spring action. This enables the wearer to urinate and pass stool without taking off the protective covers. The unit for the genital can be worn either in combination with the anal cover or without it. In deployment the unit for genital cover is fastened by a strap to the front portion of the belt.

Articles of apparel, for example cycling shorts, can include such a multi-layer protective fabric either alone or in combination with other moisture-managing, cushioning fabrics. Such protective fabric and apparel systems provide improved removal of moisture from skin, reduction of contact stress, and decrease in abrasion.

Conversion between the two patterns may be carried out while the person is wearing the garment.

Abstract: An athletic garment with protective guard members on the inner thighs. The garment preferably will be compression shorts or pants. The guard members are supported in pockets formed on the inside of each thigh portion of the shorts. The guard member preferably is adapted to both deflect impacts and to absorb shock from impacts, particularly from balls in sports such as baseball. The guard member preferably is formed of an inner flexible, hard plastic deflective layer and an outer flexible, shock absorbing foam layer. Thus, the garment of this invention is particularly suited for use by a baseball catcher and the other infielders, but will be useful to athletes in any sport. This protective garment will reduce the discomfort and injury caused by the impact of a ball or other equipment or objects employed in virtually any sports activity.

Abstract: A protective suit for covering the limbs and body of an operative to shield them from the effects of explosive devices such as anti-personnel mines includes on the front thereof an upper reinforced breast plate and a lower reinforced groin plate to provide added protection to the vital organs of the wearer. In the deployed position the groin plate at its upper end overlaps the lower end of the breast plate, and the lower end of the groin plate extends in front of and below the crotch region of the wearer. The groin plate is movable upwardly to a retracted position within a pouch in front of the breast plate, and in this retracted position does not interfere with the freedom of movement of the wearer's legs.

Abstract: Goalie pants provided with a space within the pants in which the upper protective pad of the goalie can be received. This space enables the goalie to freely move without causing any bunching of the upper pad or the pants that may lead to a lack of comfort. A second innovative feature of the improved goalie pants resides in the provision of overlapping thigh and knee padding elements that can move between a retracted and an extended position. In the extended position, the thigh and the knee padding elements are arranged such that they provide a continuous protection of the thigh and the knee. The overlapping relationship between the knee and the thigh padding elements allow them to retract when the goalie is in a position such that other protective equipment (such as the pads covering the legs) interferes with the goalie pants. A third innovative feature resides in the provision of a groin padding element that is mounted on the outside of the pants and forms a flap that overlaps the thigh padding element.

The back padded region is associated with the rear side of the upper region and includes multiple back padded members positioned in a substantially vertical orientation. The upper padded member is slidably movable and overlayingly positioned relative to the right and left leg padded members. The check pad is operably associated with the outer shell.

Abstract: A sports brief, and a method for its construction, made from a cotton blend material having sufficient compression to satisfy sport league compression requirements, such as but not limited to a 90% cotton and 10% Spandex (LYCRA.TM.) blend. The present invention also comprises a two-panel, semi-detached pouch attached to the inside front surface of the brief for holding a protective cup in the correct position in front of the pelvic region of male athletes to protect male genitals from adverse impact. The semi-detached connection of the pouch to the brief allows the cup to substantially fill the pouch for more secure containment of the cup within the pouch. It is also contemplated for darts to be optionally added to the panels and the front portion of the brief to conform the shape of the pouch and the brief to the cup.
