    Abstract: A wrist support sleeve is adapted to extend over a wearer's hand and wrist from a location below the ends of the fingers tip to a position just past the wrist region. The sleeve has an opening for receiving the wearer's thumb. A first portion of the sleeve extends around the lower part and opposite sides of a wearer's hand and wrist and has spaced side edges located in an upper region of the sleeve. An insert panel of a different material to the first sleeve portion is secured between spaced side edges of the first portion, so as to extend across the tipper portion of a wearer's hand and wrist when the device is worn. The insert panel material is a strong elastic material which has a higher stiffness than the rest of the sleeve.

    Abstract: An apparatus for releasably sealing the opening between a glove and the sleeve cuff to prevent ingress of water therebetween. The apparatus includes a pair of rings, one of which is attached to the wrist portion of a glove while the other is attached to the cuff portion of a sleeve. The rings are releasably engageable with one another in the sealed fashion under normal working conditions. The rings are capable of self-disengaging angularly and/or axially when subjected to an angular force or moment of predetermined magnitude and duration applied to the connection so as to permit detachment of the glove. The apparatus is particularly useful in wet mining applications not only to prevent water from entering the opening between the glove and cuff but also to disengage safely and assuredly should a glove get caught in any equipment.

Near the middle of the U-shaped curved piece is a generally perpendicular ridge, or striking edge, depending vertically between about 1/4" and 3/4", and extending horizontally between about 2" and 6" along the length of the wrist. The U-shaped curved piece is secured to the wrist by any sturdy conventional means, for example, by an adjustable strapping means which passes over the top side/thumb side/radius side of the wrist. A shorter, wristwatch style is envisioned, as well as a longer, forearm length version.

    Abstract: An air isolation hand covering has a bladder consisting of a plurality of interconnected or independent inflation cells that is positioned between the hand and a hand-held tool or other vibrating object. The cells are oriented to permit easy bending of the hand covering in directions appropriate for grasping an object. The effectiveness of the bladder in reducing the vibration energy transmitted to the hand is a function of the shape and configuration of the bladder, the pressure in the bladder, the compressible fluid used, the volume of the bladder, and the grip force and push force used when clasping a tool or other object. The bladder can be filled with air or other fluid during the fabrication of the bladder or it can be inflated or deflated with a small pump and integral air valve connected to one of the air cavities.
