Abstract: A wearable protection device including at least one inflatable member for moving between a rest configuration in a deflated status and an active configuration in an inflated status. The at least one inflatable member including at least one elongated portion which departs from a connecting body and the at least one elongated portion being in fluid communication with the connecting body. At least one part of the at least one elongated portion is enwrapped by at least one constraint which is designed to limit the expansion of said at least one elongated portion when the inflatable member moves in the active configuration.

Abstract: An adjustable over corrective therapeutic scoliosis brace configured to facilitate the correction of spinal curvature during a treatment period of a patient is provided. In some embodiments, the scoliosis brace comprises an external shell and one or more periodically adjustable modular internal pads systems. The one or more internal pad systems can be selectively moved and fixedly positioned in a plurality of positions along at least one of the lateral direction or the vertical direction within the external shell, wherein the plurality of positions are designed for periodic adjustment of the corrective force on the spinal curvature during the treatment period.

Abstract: A wearable airbag device for protecting the hip of a wearer includes an airbag that is formed of a sheet material having flexibility and is adapted to be put on a circumference of the pelvis of the wearer. The airbag is inflatable with an inflation gas. The airbag includes: a mounting portion that is adapted to be disposed at a region to be wrapped around the pelvis at airbag deployment; two protecting portions each of which is configured to extend downward from the mounting portion and cover an outer side of a targeted body part of the wearer at airbag deployment, the targeted body part being left and right trochanters of femurs; and a means for suppressing each of the protecting portions from expanding and floating away from the targeted body part at the lower end at deployment of the protecting portion.

Abstract: A unibody impact protection body suit apparatus that provides a secure fit to a user, provides spacing between the head of the user and the interior of the head region of the suit, provides face and shoulder protection, and situation awareness prior to impact to help prevent various head, neck, shoulder, upper body, and spinal injuries to a user in the game of football or other contact sport. In particular, the impact protection suit includes a head region having an interior wall region, a shoulder region, and a torso region. Here, the impact protection suit is configured such that the head region provides spacing between a user's head and the interior wall region to help minimize or prevent various, head, neck, and spine injuries. In addition, the suit may also include various proximity sensors and audio-visual notification interfaces for alerting the user of impending impact from an opposing player.

Abstract: A wearable airbag device includes a wearable member and an airbag held by the wearable member and inflatable with an inflation gas fed from a gas generator. The airbag includes a bag body that forms an outer shell of the airbag which includes an inner wall adapted to face the wearer when worn and an outer wall opposite to the inner wall, the bag body including one or more protecting inflatable portions for covering and protecting one or more targeted body parts respectively, and an inner bag that is disposed inside the bag body and configured to be inflated with the inflation gas from the gas generator. The inner bag includes one or more supply ports for forwarding the inflation gas to the bag body. Each of the supply ports is configured to emit the inflation gas toward one of the protecting inflatable portions and toward the outer wall.

Abstract: A cloth assembly for making a protective pad for sports includes a plurality of supporting fibers extending between and supporting first and second knitted cloths, providing an elastic air-permeable cloth. A knitted cloth includes a first side having a plurality of loops and a second side bonded to an outer face of the first knitted cloth. A hook tape includes a plurality of hooks on a face thereof. The hook tape is fixed to the first side of the knitted cloth or an outer surface of the second knitted cloth according to the type of the protective pad to be made. When the hook tape is fixed to the knitted cloth, the face of the hook tape having the hooks faces the first side of the knitted cloth having loops. Only a portion of the hook tape overlaps and is fixed to an end of the knitted cloth.

Abstract: To ensure an excellent slip-proof effect for a hygiene item, in particular for a baby diaper or an incontinence diaper when opening the diaper, a fastening tape is proposed having a separate film-like grip area with a macroscopically structured surface. Likewise, a hygiene item having such a grip area and a method for manufacturing such a fastening tape are proposed.

Abstract: A flexible protective cover for preventing fluid from entering an open epidermal site on a user, comprising: a central portion having at least one rib, an edge connected to the central portion at an angle, a lip disposed around the edge, a sealing member disposed over the lip for providing a sealing engagement between the lip and the open epidermal site, and at least one adjustable strap removably connected to the central portion. Also disclosed is a flexible protective cover having a central portion, an edge connected to the central portion at an angle, an inflatable sealing member integral with the edge for providing the sealing engagement, and at least one adjustable strap removably connected to the central portion.

Abstract: A method for preventing infection and maintaining aseptic epidermal areas by preventing contaminated fluid from entering an open epidermal site on a user, comprising the steps of: removably attaching at least one adjustable strap to a reusable non-deforming flexible protective cover comprising a sealing member, covering the open epidermal site with the reusable non-deforming flexible protective cover while maintaining a space between the reusable non-deforming flexible protective cover and the open epidermal site, and tightening the at least one adjustable strap to secure the reusable non-deforming flexible protective cove over the open epidermal site to create a fluid-tight seal between the sealing member and the open epidermal site, thereby preventing contaminated fluid from entering the open epidermal site.

Abstract: A cutaway vest generally includes a rear portion having an internal cummerbund, a front portion, and a pull cord. The cutaway vest includes a cutaway attachment in each shoulder and in the back for cutting away the shoulders, the sides, and the cummerbund upon pulling and removing a pull cord from the cutaway vest. The cutaway attachment may include a loop which is inserted through a ring and secured in place by a cable of the pull cord.

Abstract: An adjustment system having a configuration capable of adjusting a length of a section of a garment. The adjustment system advantageously includes at least one section of material upon which the adjustment system is incorporated. The section of material includes an attachment portion, a first portion, a second portion, and a middle portion or flap. The flap is positioned between the first portion and the second portion and the attachment portion is positioned generally adjacent to the second portion and the flap. The adjustment system includes an extensible member that extends between the first portion and the second portion, and thereby forms the flap by generally biasing the first portion and the second portion towards one another and bulging the middle portion.

Abstract: A body armor vest is anchored at the waist of a wearer by providing an elastic lower garment, preferably in the form of a legged brief type undergarment, that snugly fits the lower torso of the wearer. The lower garment anchors the vest in place by attaching along a strip across the front and back of the vest at the waist. The lower garment distributes an elastic force that horizontally and vertically returns the vest, when pulled out of position by the movement of the wearer, to its intended position, with the waist level thereof centered at the front and back of the wearer's waist. Detachable fasteners are provided to allow the easy putting on, adjustment and removal of the vest and lower garment combination. With the legged brief version of the lower garment, the fasteners preferably include strips of hook and loop material sets at the front and back of the waist on the vest shell and lower garment.

Abstract: A device to absorb underarm perspiration is provided. The device includes a central body with an absorbent pad disposed thereon. Extending from the upper portion of the central body is a first pair of arms, which include a right and left terminus. Located atop the right and left terminus of the first pair of arms is a first fastening means designed to hold the absorbent pad directly on the underarm by looping generally about the deltoid muscle of the arm and connecting the right arm to the left arm. Extending from the middle portion of the central body is a second pair of arms, which include a right and a left terminus. Located atop the right and left terminus of the second pair of arms is a second fastening means designed to additionally secure the absorbent pad directly on the underarm by affixing the right and left arms of the second pair of arms to the trunk of the user. Extending from the lower portion of the central body is a third pair of arms, which include a right and a left terminus.

Abstract: A uniform for peace officers and others requiring the wearing of body armor which uniform supports heavy gear around the wearer's waist. The uniform includes body armor which has front and rear parts which are supported over the wearer's shoulders by shoulder straps. The body armor has hook portions of hook and loop fasteners affixed to the outer surface adjacent that part of the body armor which is under a wearer's belt. A shirt has loop fasteners attached to the inner surface and hook fasteners attached to the outer surface adjacent that portion of the shirt which is under a wearer's belt. Lastly, pants are provided which have eye type fasteners around the inner portion of the waist and belt loops around the outer portion.

Abstract: A versatile costume system is provided including a body suit with a plurality of fasteners mounted thereon. Also included is a plurality of unique masks each adapted to be worn by a user. A plurality of resilient decorative plates are equipped with fasteners that are adapted to be removably attached to those of the body suit. It should be noted that the decorative plates each match one of the masks.

Abstract: Expansible sport protective body pouches for torso and extremities are disclosed that dissipate impact energy away from the body by expanding and compressing at predesigned rates when subjected to the forces of impact trauma. Comprised of anatomically-shaped two layer expansible protective pouches, and removable replaceable internal impact deceleration control components, the design allows individual deceleration control elements; foam impact dispersant replaceable inserts with impact deceleration-body heat venting apertures, and replaceable penetration resistant impact trauma shields with impact deceleration control-body heat venting apertures, to be inserted or removed from the replaceable expansible protective pouch. The expansible protective pouch is constructed of various cloth material combinations selected by the wearer; internal impact deceleration control element materials are also a plurality wearer option.

Abstract: A protective device which can be employed for preventing injuries to a person's limbs in active sports and work activities. The device is comprised of a cushioning pad, a replaceable wear cap and a fastening structure which releasably fastens between the inner surface of the wear cap and the outer surface of the cushioning pad. The cushioning pad is adapted to fit about a limb of the user. The fastening structure includes a first layer which is comprised of a material having a plurality of loops, and a second layer comprised of a material having a plurality of hooks. The hooks of the second layer are unidirectional and when the two layers are brought into facing contact the hooks and loops interengage in a manner so that the wear cap has a greater resistance to force components vectored opposite the common direction in which the hooks face.

Abstract: The invention comprises a patient garment having a front side, a back side and two sleeve sections. The front side opens vertically down the center and is closed with releasable fasteners such as buttons or snaps, to allow for the patient to put on the garment. The garment has four triangular openings, arranged two on the front side and two on the back side, with one each on the right and left sides of the garment. The garment has a shoulder strap on each side that runs from the neck of the garment along the shoulder line of the garment and connects to a sleeve section. The shoulder strap forms the top edge of each of the triangular openings. Four triangular panels are attached to the garment to cover each of the triangular openings. Each triangular panel has a top side, a proximal side and a distal side. The top side of each panel is releasably secured to a shoulder strap.

Abstract: An adjustable chest protector to prevent athletic injuries, particularly in baseball. The chest protector is C-shaped in a horizontal plane and designed to fit comfortably and unnoticeably underneath clothing of the user. It is also designed to allow free, unhindered movement by the athlete. The chest protector nevertheless is strong enough to prevent potentially fatal injuries. A portion of the protector is contoured convexly away from the user to assume the natural shape of the user's hemithorax.

Abstract: A play costume is comprised of a plurality of pads detachably mountable on body worn apparel. Optional items such as a belt and carrying bag with a draw string for transporting and storing the play costume parts may be packaged with the play costume as part of a costume kit. Further peripherals which may be included with the costume include: an integral sound system, interchangeable pads, simulated weapons, infrared detection systems, a powered simulated eye patch, interchangeable program cartridges and an integral light system.

Abstract: An athletic protective gear includes a protective structural member, a protective pad, and a retainer unit. The structural member is formed to overlie a body part to be protected. The protective pad of depressible material is formed to be disposed between the protective structural member and the body part and has two openings formed therethrough. The retainer unit includes a fastener strap secured on an inner surface of the protective structural member and has two opposed end portions which respectively extend through the openings of the structural member, and two hook-and-loop elements which are secured to the end portions respectively and which engage each other in such a manner that the protective structural member abuts against an outer side surface of the protective pad, thereby retaining the end portions of the strap on an inner side surface of the protective pad. Thus, the protective pad is confined between the structural member and the body part.

Abstract: The invention is a self-contained protective device/system designed to protect the hips, pelvis, buttocks, and coccyx areas of the user. The device may be worn outside of the clothing. Because it is small in size and lightweight, it may be easily put on and removed and does not interfere with body movements. It contains the following components: an inflatable air bag folded into pleats, a battery, a gas cartridge, sensors to determine angular motion and acceleration, a triggering/valve mechanism to release the gas and a relief valve. When the user falls, the sensors automatically release gas from the cartridge and inflate the airbag assembly, forcing the folded pleats to fully cover said areas of the user's body. After use the relief valve is opened to release air from the airbag assembly, the pleats are reinserted into the system and the invention is ready for reuse after the spent cartridge is replaced.

Abstract: Underarm straps for shoulder pads wherein a pair of non-elastic strap segments are connected between the breast plates and back plates of the shoulder pads and extend underneath the arms of the user on each side of the shoulder pads. The strap segments are adjustably connected by clamping rings which permit a quick infinite adjustment of the effective length of the underarm straps by the user pushing the strap segments forwardly to tighten the shoulder pads. One of the clamping rings is provided with a handle to facilitate the manual release of the gripping action of the clamping rings, and a releasable fastener is provided on the strap segments to hold one strap segment in a folded position over the other strap segment to cover the clamping rings after the shoulder pads have been tightened on the user.

Abstract: A shark repellant patch is provided which includes a highly flexible, impermeable membrane sealing a shark repelling substance to a highly flexible base. The membrane is provided with imperfections that cause the membrane to shear when it is subjected to a predetermined level of force. In one embodiment of the invention, a tab is provided proximate the imperfections to facilitate rupturing the membrane. An adhesive is applied to a portion of the base. An exemplary method of fabrication is also provided.

Abstract: To provide effective and protective sliding means for in-line roller skating, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW) plates are detachably fastened to the protective outerclothes and gloves of the user. Hook and loop fasteners are used in a manner that permits the UHMW plates to articulate on the fastening as the plate slides or skids on the pavement and the user's position changes during the slide. With the hook and loop fastening, excessive shear stress or pulling, from contact with an obstruction, permits the UHMW plate to separate before these stresses damage the skid plate, the hook and loop fastening, the adhesive bonds or the underlying protective clothing. The result is a slide or sliding fall as on ice in ice skating and various fall and slide maneuvers of the ice skater are made practical for the in-line roller skater on pavement.
