Patent number: 4148958Abstract: A breathable lining and shaping material especially suited for garments, comprising a nonwoven layer of randomly arranged fibers superposed on a nonwoven layer of oriented fibers, means holding together the fibers of each layer and holding the layers together, and an outer binder imprinted on the outer face of the oriented fiber layer, the weight of the outer binder being at most 50% of the material weight, the length to width strength ratio of the randomly arranged fiber layer ranging from about 4:1 to 1:4. Advantageously a heat activatable adhesive is provided at spaced locations on the outer face of the randomly arranged layer, whereby the material can be joined to the underside of a garment by hot pressing. The outer binder on the outside of the oriented fiber layer preferably is printed in a regular pattern to ensure that all fibers are tied down by bonds at multiple points.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1978Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Assignee: Firma Carl FreudenbergInventors: Kurt Tischer, Walter Fottinger

Patent number: 4031564Abstract: A hockey mask including a grille work for substantially covering the face of a player wearing a helmet to which it is attached. The grille work defines a plurality of apertures sufficiently small to prevent passage of a hockey stick and a larger sized, elongated, curved opening positioned to extend adjacently to the player's eyes and to substantially encompass the player's field of vision. Covering the opening is a curved, flexible, transparent shield formed from a high impact resistant material. The shield is retained in a state of flex corresponding to its normal curvature by receptacles that receive ends of the shield and engage projections thereon that resist movement of the shield out of the receptacles.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1976Date of Patent: June 28, 1977Inventor: Theodore W. Patent number: 4028743Abstract: A protective head-wear including a shell or helmet-like member for protecting the head of a wearer and a face shield of the full face protective type. The face shield may be constructed of a transparent member such as a solid clear plastic or alternatively of wire mesh. In either event, about the peripheral edge of the face shield there is provided a rim which may be constructed of a separate wire or may be formal integrally with the shield. Shock absorbing resiliently deformable means is disposed between the face shield and the shell to absorb forces applied to the face shield as a result of impact thereon. The resiliently deformable member may be a rubber-like strip secured to the periphery of the forward edge of the helmet and engagable by the rim on the face shield. Alternatively, the shock absorbing member may be resiliently deformable member incorporated into a means for attaching the face shield to the shell.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1975Date of Patent: June 14, 1977Inventor: Cai V. Christensen

Patent number: 4022466Abstract: An attachment for a hockey helmet is provided which, when attached, obstructs the downwardly extending vision of the helmet wearer. The attachment generally comprises a flat arcuate member constructed of a flexible and opaque material. The arcuate member is attached to the helmet so that it extends forwardly of the helmet in a generally horizontal plane and below the eye opening of the helmet. Consequently, with the hockey helmet worn on the head of a hockey player, the arcuate member obstructs the downwardly extending vision of the player. Adjustment means are provided for both vertically and horizontally positioning the arcuate member relative to the helmet.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1976Date of Patent: May 10, 1977Inventor: Thomas A. Kaiser

Patent number: 4021858Abstract: A face mask for use with a protective helmet, particularly a hockey helmet. The mask comprises a main support member adapted to be attached to the helmet at each of its upper ends and shaped to extend down each side of the face of a wearer of the helmet and under the chin. A cage extends outwardly from the main support member and across the lower face and under the chin of the wearer to protect the lower face. Lower attachment means attach the face mask to the helmet at a point remote from its attachment to the main support member. A transparent, break-resistent screen to protect the eyes and upper face is attached to the main support member. The bottom edge of the screen is close to the upper edge of the cage.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1976Date of Patent: May 10, 1977Inventors: Gregory Patrick Neeld, Norman George Neeld

Patent number: 3991753Abstract: A device for preventing an individual from inhaling germs, foreign bodies, and the like. The device includes only a single sheet of a relatively light-weight plastic material which has an outer convex surface area and an opposed inner concave surface area defining for the sheet a hollow interior space adapted to receive the nose, mouth, and chin of an individual, with the sheet having connected thereto a structure for mounting the sheet on the head of the individual in such a way that while the nose, mouth, and chin of the individual are in the hollow interior of the sheet nevertheless the nose, mouth, and chin do not engage the inner surface area of the sheet.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1975Date of Patent: November 16, 1976Inventor: Gabriel Viesca y Viesca
-
Patent number: 3963034Abstract: A flat transparent sheet of a polymerized resin in the form of a paddle that may be wrapped circumferentially about a container that holds an aerosol type hair spray. The paddle has a number of spaced score lines so arranged thereon that after the sheet is removed from the container, and the longitudinal edges of the handle pressed towards one another, the handle will assume a generally channel shaped transverse cross section. As the handle assumes this channel shaped transverse cross section the body portion of the paddle shaped sheet is concurrently deformed into a like transverse cross section. The deformed body portion when held in front of the face permits pressurized hair spray to be discharged onto the hair of the user without danger of the spray contacting the user's facial make up.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1975Date of Patent: June 15, 1976Inventors: Richard K. Runberg, Shirley M. Runberg
-
Patent number: 3960096Abstract: A face mask comprising an elongated sheet of porous material having upper and lower longitudinal edges and transverse side edges. A line of stitches of elastic material is sewn to the material along both its side edges, and a length of elastic cord at each side edge is secured to the material by interweaving with the line of stitches thereat. A free intermediate portion of the elastic cord is formed between the ends at which the cord is interwoven with the stitches to the porous material, and the free intermediate portion forms an ear loop. The elastic material is sewn to the porous material and interwoven with the cord lengths while the porous material is taut so that when the porous material is relaxed, the elastic material exerts a pull on the porous material to gather and contract the material at the side edges.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1974Date of Patent: June 1, 1976Inventor: James W. Zobel

Patent number: 3952331Abstract: A protective eyeshade device particularly adapted to be used by golfers while on the fairway of a golf course as a protection against golf balls in flight. The device includes cushioning elements positioned in the area of the brow and temples, and a nose piece overlying the boned portion of the nose of the wearer. Cylindrically shaped lenses are formed of high impact synthetic resinous materials permitting flexing under the impact of a golf ball while transmitting the impact to the cushioning elements. The device is removed for actual playing of a game of golf, and the outer surfaces of the temple members are provided with pocket engaging clip means for this purpose.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1974Date of Patent: April 27, 1976Inventor: Thomas Melville

Patent number: 3946442Abstract: A helmet visor to be attached to the front of a crash helmet to protect the user's face and comprising a stiff support comprising a curved transparent plate covered by an antifriction layer and a movable film material extending across the user's field of sight. A supply roll of the movable film is rotationally mounted at one side edge portion of the support and a continuously or intermittently driven take-up roll is mounted at the other side edge portion of the support. When the film section within the user's field of sight has received sight restricting deposits the user actuates the driven take-up roll to draw the dirty film section out of the field of sight and introduce a fresh film section into the field of sight.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1972Date of Patent: March 30, 1976Assignee: Conort Engineering ABInventor: Bengt Olof Henrik Wallander
