Patent number: 8741108Abstract: A reactor (9) for the pyrolysis of carbon-containing waste material such as rubber chips includes a cylindrical air-tight reactor vessel (10) which has an inlet through which rubber chips (4) are introduced into the reactor vessel and an outlet (60) through which oil distillate can be discharged therefrom. The reactor vessel has a cooling jacket through which cooling water flows for cooling an inner shell (40) of the vessel. The chips (4) are deposited onto a support tray (70) and displaced towards a rear end of the reactor vessel by a chain conveyer (89). The chips (4) are heated on the tray (40) causing decomposition of the chips into a vapor and amorphous carbon. The vapor condenses when it contacts the inner shell (40) and runs down the sides of the vessel (10) towards a lower side thereof before being discharged through the outlet (60).Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2006Date of Patent: June 3, 2014Assignee: Gecco Group (Proprietary) LimitedInventor: John Lindsay Dinnematin

Patent number: 5871619Abstract: A discharge system for a destructive distillation apparatus wherein the discharge solids act as plug to avoid the unwanted flow of product gas or ambient air therethrough while effectively discharging finely divided, disperse solids material from a continuously operating distillation apparatus. The use of a positive displacement two-stage auger having close clearance between the auger and auger cylinder wall, combined with an open section within the auger cylinder where a sealing material plug forms, results in improved sealing of the inventive system from unwanted transfer of gases. The hot, disperse, and finely divided solids exiting a distillation apparatus, such as carbon black formed from the distillation of automobile tire chips, is effective in the formation of a seal plug.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1995Date of Patent: February 16, 1999Assignee: Tire Recycling Technologies CorporationInventors: Dana J. Patent number: 4373998Abstract: A heat shield for hot vertical pipes and, in particular, coke oven ascension pipes. This heat shield includes a lower, open-bottomed cylindrical housing section which peripherally encloses the pipe. Vertically projecting from this housing is an arcuate wall which is spaced from the pipe. The housing is internally partitioned into a warmer space adjacent the pipe and a cooler space remote from the pipe so that a heat dissipating upward draft is established in the housing and between the pipe and the vertical arcuate wall.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1981Date of Patent: February 15, 1983Assignee: Koppers Company, Inc.Inventors: Earl C.
