Striker Surface Guard Or Shield Patents (Class 206/108)
  • Patent number: 8840777
Abstract: A process for treating a hydrocarbon-containing feedstock is provided in which a hydrocarbon-containing feedstock comprising at least 20 wt. % of heavy hydrocarbons is mixed with hydrogen and a non-acidic metal-containing catalyst at a temperature of 375° C. to 500° C. to produce a vapor comprising a first hydrocarbon-containing product. The vapor comprising the first hydrocarbon-containing product is separated from the mixture, and, apart from the mixture, the first hydrocarbon-containing product is contacted with hydrogen and a catalyst containing a Column 6 metal at a temperature of 260° C.-425° C. to produce a second hydrocarbon-containing product. The second hydrocarbon-containing product is separated into fractions, one of the fractions being a heavy hydrocarbon fraction comprised of hydrocarbons having a boiling point of at least 343° C. The heavy hydrocarbon fraction is then contacted with a fluidizable cracking catalyst at a temperature of at least 500° C.

  • Patent number: 4221289
Abstract: The invention refers substantially to Matches and their packaging therein, with further refinements being to insure safe utilization of the packaged matches. All relevant safety features are utilized in conjunction with the use and application of these matches. The matches are isolated from each other and substantially isolated from the striker until certain operations are performed, this necessitates, on the part of the user, certain preliminary actions which are substantially inobservant to the young or unsophisticated mentality. The necessity of performing these operations substantially reduce the adverse use of these packaged matches.

  • Patent number: 4143761
Abstract: A safety match book having a flexible cover enclosing a plurality of matchsticks each having an end tearably fastened to at least one binding strip; a match striking surface formed on an interior surface of the match book cover normally abutting one binding strip; and means for fastening the match book cover to all the strips in a region between the striking surface and another end of the matches. A portion of the match book cover, enclosing all the binding strips and the striking surface, extends a sufficient distance beyond the end of the binding strips opposite the other matchstick ends whereby the match striking surface normally abutting the binding strip may be moved outwardly a sufficient distance to allow the head of a matchstick torn from the binding strip to be inserted between the match striking surface and the binding strip exterior surface when pressure is applied to the match book cover in the direction forcing the striking surface toward the binding strip.

  • Patent number: 4082182
Abstract: An organic plastic matchbook cover having continuous front, back and side walls, and that is closed at its bottom and generally open at its top. The walls and bottom define a generally wedge-shaped interior cavity having the size and shape necessary to receive a conventional paper matchbook therewithin. An opening is provided in the front wall of the cover in position to overlie the striking surface of the matchbook, and a second opening is provided in the back wall to permit a thumb or finger to engage the back of the matchbook. A holding tab projects from the top of the back wall partially across the top of the cover towards the front wall in position to overlie and engage the top of a matchbook positioned in the cavity, and a locking tab projects inwardly from each of the side walls.

  • Patent number: 4029203
Abstract: A child-resistant match book incorporates abrasive ignition material within a slot formed by a fold. The slot has open ends, but the abrasive material extends remotely from the right end of the slot, the book oriented with the flap facing the user.

  • Patent number: 4010846
Abstract: A safety match book is disclosed in which the striking strip is not normally sufficiently exposed for the striking of matches thereon and can only be exposed by releasing an interconnection between a panel of the cover on which the striking strip is mounted and a retainer flap. The releasable interconnection may be in the form of a pair of adhesive strips immediately adjacent and on opposite sides of the striking strip. The cover may be made thin and of a material which is easily tearable. As a result, if a child or other person not aware of the danger of matches, picks up the matches and attempts to open them, the cover will tear without releasing the interconnection between the panel of the cover and the retainer so that the striking strip is not exposed and the matches therefore cannot be struck thereon.

  • Patent number: 4007829
Abstract: In the match pack of this invention, the ignition or striking surface is positioned on an interior wall surface of the ignition chamber which is conveniently located on the bottom portion of the match pack below the match comb or combs in the match pack. The housing or body structure defining the ignition chamber is formed with at least one entry hole or passage which opens into the ignition chamber to enable a match to be inserted into the chamber for ignition. An ignition finger conveniently positioned on the closure flap or front cover of the match pack is insertable through a slot in the chamber-defining body structure to press the match head of the inserted match against the striking or ignition surface and to thereby facilitate ignition of the match upon rapidly withdrawing it from the ignition chamber.

  • Patent number: 3982629
Abstract: A match book includes a cover which surrounds a plurality of match sticks extended from a common base. This base is secured to a back panel forming part of the cover. The cover also includes a front panel which overlies the match sticks, a base panel which overlies the base, and an intermediate panel interconnecting the front and base panels and normally folded between them. The front panel has a flap which when raised exposes the match sticks, but the lower end of the flap is normally covered by the intermediate panel. The intermediate panel has a scratch surface which is normally exposed through a window in the overlying base panel. However, the front, intermediate and base panels must be unfolded to free the flap, so that match sticks may be removed, and when unfolded the scratch surface is no longer accessible through the window. Thus, the flap must be closed to strike a match.

  • Patent number: 3966041
Abstract: A safety matchbook comprises a cardboard blank folded so as to form a matchbook, retains a plurality of matches and has a striking surface within a chamber for igniting a match. The striking surface is concealed within a tubular chamber formed by the folds of the cardboard blank and is accessible through a hole in a side of the chamber. The match, which is bent or scored at a point immediately below its head, is ignited by inserting the end of the match opposite the head into the hole so that the opposite end extends through one end of the tubular chamber. The match is then pulled through the chamber, thereby drawing the head of the match across the striking surface, igniting the match.

  • Patent number: 3951258
Abstract: A match book safety case having a back and a front hinged together for enclosing a book of matches. The case presents an opening so that the striker portion of the book itself is exposed when the case is closed; and the case has a safety device which automatically covers the book striker portion when the cover is open, and therefore the user cannot strike a match until the cover is closed.

  • Patent number: 3942633
Abstract: A holder for a book of matches comprised of an enclosure element having a back panel and top and bottom retention lips which partially enclose the match book. First and second side panels restrict lateral movement of the match book to prevent removal of the book by children. The match book strike plate is accessible only through an opening in the back panel of the enclosure which is covered by a movable guard element. The guard element is biased in a closed position by means of a spring mechanism and release tab to prevent access to the strike plate by children.

  • Patent number: 3939970
Abstract: A match package is provided which is meant to be child-proof. It has the appearance of an ordinary package of matches, and is preferably even printed on its outer surface to simulate a striking surface. However, the actual striking surface is concealed behind the simulated striking surface, so that unless the person lighting the match is aware of its location, the match will not light.
