Groove Or Opposed Surfaces Patents (Class 206/109)
  • Patent number: 4978002
Abstract: The stackable low depth bottle case of the present invention includes four side walls and a bottom portion. A plurality of upwardly projecting hollow columns extend upwardly within the side walls. The columns, walls, and bottom portion define a plurality of bottle retaining pockets. The bottle retaining pockets have flat surfaces to permit retention of bottles without base indentations and to permit rotation of petaloid bottles. The columns extend upwardly from the base portion a distance approximately one third of the height of the bottles to be retained. The columns may be hollow to permit empty cases to stack top to bottom. The lower surface of the bottom portion has circular concave portions with central retaining openings to facilitate stacking of loaded cases top to bottom. When a case is disposed on a lower filled case, the bottle tops of the lower case are guided toward the central retaining openings by the circular concave portions.

  • Patent number: 4199324
Abstract: A combination match retainer and igniter provided with an elongated striking chamber which is laterally expanded to receive an unlighted match in response to relative sliding movement in one direction between the retainer and its cover, and which is laterally contracted in response to said relative sliding movement in the opposite direction to grip the match preparatory to withdrawal and ignition thereof.

  • Patent number: 4143761
Abstract: A safety match book having a flexible cover enclosing a plurality of matchsticks each having an end tearably fastened to at least one binding strip; a match striking surface formed on an interior surface of the match book cover normally abutting one binding strip; and means for fastening the match book cover to all the strips in a region between the striking surface and another end of the matches. A portion of the match book cover, enclosing all the binding strips and the striking surface, extends a sufficient distance beyond the end of the binding strips opposite the other matchstick ends whereby the match striking surface normally abutting the binding strip may be moved outwardly a sufficient distance to allow the head of a matchstick torn from the binding strip to be inserted between the match striking surface and the binding strip exterior surface when pressure is applied to the match book cover in the direction forcing the striking surface toward the binding strip.

  • Patent number: 4095689
Abstract: An improved package for matches is disclosed, in which the striking surface of the package is protected by a flattenable, generally tubular enclosure. The enclosure hides the striking surface from view, and prevents a match from being struck unless it is pinched between the striking surface and the interior wall of the enclosure as it is drawn across the striking surface. The tubular enclosure may include a front cover receiving recess, and normally be in a flattened position, whereby a sliding motion of the front cover towards the tubular enclosure while in engagement with the receiving recess expands the tubular enclosure allowing access to the striking surface.

  • Patent number: 4058208
Abstract: A matchbook of generally conventional design is provided, but the free edge of the front flap or cover thereof includes an integral backturned portion opposing the inner surface of the front panel or cover. The matches are provided with an ignitable coating devoid of portions thereof on one side of the matches and the striking surface on the cover for igniting the coating on the matches is applied to the inner surface of the flap opposing the inner surface of the front panel of the cover with the striking surface in a position normally hidden from view, the free edge of the flap and one end portion thereof being free of direct attachment to the opposing portions of the front cover and being displaceable away from the opposing inner surfaces of the front panel sufficient to receive the end of a match thereunder having the aforementioned ignitable coating thereon.

  • Patent number: 4040516
Abstract: A safety match packet in which the front and back covers that enclose the comb of safety matches are formed from a single sheet of material. In addition, the sheet of material has a double folded end that receives the base of the safety match comb and the double fold forms a transversely extending pocket that is open at both ends and has at least one of its inner surfaces lined with a safety match igniting material. A safety match may be removed from the comb of matches and, after the front cover is closed, the match head may be inserted into the pocket from either end and then with a sufficient compressive pressure applied by the thumb and fingers of one hand on the outer walls of the pocket and a quick outward pull on the end of the match with the other hand, the safety match will be ignited without any chance of the person burning the fingers or face.

  • Patent number: 3987896
Abstract: The match container is provided with a separate match retaining element and a separate hollow match striking element in which a striking surface is located within a pocket formed within the striking element after which the two elements are permanently attached to each other. The striking element is constructed of a non-combustible material having at least one collapsible side and an opening in at least one edge of the striking element through which a match head and part of the match stick is inserted to a point where the match head will be in the area of the striking surface and will be ignited when the wall of the striking element is collapsed and the match withdrawn from the pocket.

  • Patent number: 3981396
Abstract: A safety cover is provided for matchbooks whereby individual matches may be struck with the head safely enclosed within a sleeve formed integral with the cover in order to make it difficult for the matches to be struck by children and avoid accidental ignition of other matches in the book should the cover be open and a match struck. The matchbook includes a conventional stick of cardboard matches with a cardboard flap cover attached along the baseline of the matches and an abrasive striking surface on the lower edge of the book. The abrasive strip is enclosed within a folded extension of cardboard, aluminum or the like to form a tubular enclosure or sleeve. The match is struck by simply tearing off the match from the stick of matches, inserting the head of the match in the sleeve, pressing against the outside of the sleeve and then pulling the match outwardly in a sharp stroke.
