Patent number: 5251750Abstract: A compact disc tray incorporates a flat planar surface approximating the size of a compact disc for nesting a compact disc. A central rosette molded to the flat planar surface engages the inner center hole of the CD. The rosette has engagement arms molded to and extending upward from the tray for engaging the center hole, and further extending radially inward towards a molded connection with a center button. The molded connection between the center button and inner ends of the engagement arms provides a living hinge and may be accomplished through reduced thickness in the molded material. Pushing of the center button imparts a downward motion on the inner ends of the engagement arms, which thereby angles the upwardly extending portions of the engagement arms away from the engagement with the center hole of the CD. This releases the CD from the rosette.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1992Date of Patent: October 12, 1993Assignee: Paul J. GelardiInventors: Paul J. Gelardi, John A. Gelardi, David A. Patent number: 5236081Abstract: A CD package is provided, including a pivotable CD holder and a foldable cardboard cover. The holder includes a square central panel and two side, substantially rectangular profile "flip" panels each with a substantially semicircular cutout corresponding to half of a CD. The cover includes four portions separated by strips, each portion foldable relative to each other, and a plurality of cutouts to temporarily receive projections formed on the underside of the holder. The cover is slidably received within clasps, also formed on the underside of the holder. The flip panels are pivoted, coplanar to the central panel to create a retail configuration, with two portions of the cover extending over each of the front and back, respectively, of the holder. The cover and holder are then shrink wrapped together. This retail configuration forms a rigid "long box" since the holder spans cover strips. The consumer removes the shrink wrap, unfolds the cover and removes the CD.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1992Date of Patent: August 17, 1993Assignee: Shape Inc.Inventors: William T. Patent number: 5188229Abstract: A compact disc (CD) package formed from a unitary paperboard blank. The package is relatively long and stiff in its pre-purchased form and is readily foldable widthwise only after purchase. To permit folding after purchase, any outer wrapping is removed and the purchaser pulls a tear strip to rip away two of three layers of paperboard spanning the width of the package. This removal permits relatively easy folding of the remaining paperboard layer. The package yields both the desired pre-purchase larger size to permit desired graphics and also inhibits shoplifting. The lesser size of the package after folding facilitates storage by the purchaser. The blank of FIG. 1 includes a first pair of panels (20, 22) in a first row, a second pair of panels (30, 28) in a second row, and a third pair of panels (14, 12) in a third row. The panels of the first pair are joined by a foldable joint (46). The panels of the second pair are joined by a first frangible connection in the form of a tear strip (40).Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1991Date of Patent: February 23, 1993Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventor: Linda A. Patent number: 4124118Abstract: The disclosure concerns a protective package for a video disc of the type having a pair of finger holes in the label area. The package includes a base member having a well for removably receiving the video disc. A pair of rotational restraints are secured to the base member for effecting engagement with the finger holes during the containment of the video disc in the well, such engagement preventing rotational motion of the video disc relative to the base member. A cover member is secured to the base member for enclosing the video disc in the well. Pursuant to another embodiment of the present invention, the rotational restraints are removably secured to the base member, instead of being integral therewith in accordance with the first embodiment.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1977Date of Patent: November 7, 1978Assignee: RCA CorporationInventor: James H. Patent number: 4085875Abstract: Apparatus for carrying phonographic records in a stacked arrangement. The apparatus has a base, a spindle, and a handle. The handle is movably coupled to the spindle to provide two positions for the handle relative to the spindle. One handle position is employed for carrying the stack and carrier. The other handle position is a storage position which facilitates adding records to, or removing records from the stack without detaching the handle from the spindle. For compactness in shipping and storage, the base and the spindle may be separate pieces, which may be easily assembled and disassembled.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1976Date of Patent: April 25, 1978Inventors: Louis Campbell, Edward G. Patent number: 4084690Abstract: A video disc package comprises a base member and a cover member hingedly secured to the base member. The members define a cavity for enclosing a centrally-apertured disc record when juxtaposed. A center post includes first and second portions attached respectively to the base and the cover members. Each of the portions has arcuate peripheral surfaces dimensioned for engagement with diametrically opposite portions of the wall defining the central aperture of the record when it is enclosed in the cavity. The first and the second portions are constructed such that they nest within the central aperture during the reception of the record in the cavity.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1977Date of Patent: April 18, 1978Assignee: RCA CorporationInventor: Carl Frederick Pulse

Patent number: 4022320Abstract: A phonograph record, video picture disc, or the like, is held in "sandwich" fashion between first and second layers of pressure absorbing, resilient material, and also held in substantially fixed position on a planar surface by means of a spindle forming a part thereof and passing through coaxial apertures in the layers in passing through the central aperture of the record or disc. The planar surface is selected of material sufficiently rigid to support the record or disc and resilient layers, but sufficiently thin to be inserted within grooves of guide inserts adapted for securement within a cabinet, to serve as trays or shelves for the the storage of such records or picture discs, either vertically or horizontally.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1975Date of Patent: May 10, 1977Inventor: Seth Paul Hadley

Patent number: 3955733Abstract: A case within which record player records can be conveniently carried so that the records cannot be damaged while in transit, the case consisting of a container molded of plastic material and which is integral with several posts formed on one interior side wall so that the records can be hooked on to the posts, and the case, in one design of the invention, being reversible inside out so to form a stand with the posts on the outer side during use so to conveniently locate records that are desired to be played.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1974Date of Patent: May 11, 1976Inventor: William A. Patent number: 3949872Abstract: A case for enclosing phonograph records and the like is disclosed which provides for rigid support of the record and protection from scratching, dust and moisture without allowing the surface of the case to contact the record's grooved surfaces thereby damaging those surfaces. The molded case is formed of a lid and a body hingedly joined at one edge of each. The lid and body are molded to form flush joints and a centering pin together with annular bearing zones. Together these insure the record stays in position within the case, is protected from crushing force external to the case and is further protected from moisture and scratching.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1974Date of Patent: April 13, 1976Inventor: Francis Paudras
